We are trying to decide whether to accept our offer to Latin PCS. Please share any insights on the school's academics, extracurricular activities, and sense of community. Thank you!

Please do a search for what has already been said, and then come back and ask more specific questions.

I’m curious too if anyone is willing to weigh in here. I did a bunch of searches already but they weren’t particularly recent and the recent ones mostly just devolved into BASIS boosterism.

I am also interested in more recent feedback. I hear there are some issues with behavior. We are also at a DCI feeder so trying to decide between the two.

My friend's kids really love it. But you would be better off asking more specific questions--or better yet, reaching out to parents of enrolled kids.

It would also help to know what your other options are.

We love Latin. The teachers are mostly exceptional, kind and tight-knit group of students, not overly stressful but the kids are really held accountable. The only behavioral issues Ive heard of are some messy bathrooms.

I love the tutorial option after school for extra help, the classical education model, the small classes, the great teacher retention, the focus on academic skills, geography and theatre. Most importantly, my kid LOVES Latin.

I know a bunch of Latin families and they all seem very happy and their kids are learning a lot and have nice friends. None of these families seem like people who spend a lot of time on this forum.

Not a Latin parent but I enjoyed seeing a group from the Cooper campus having class outside on the picnic tables at Dew Drop this afternoon.

We picked BASIS DC over Latin 2nd St.

Latin's academics are weak but the school remains popular given the school grounds and sports. BASIS offers a much more accelerated curriculum.

Compare CAPE scores for Latin and BASIS DC after kids have been there for several years:

10th grade scores at 4 or 5:

Latin

Math <10%
ELA 65.9%

BASIS DC

Math 89.2%
ELA >95%

Can you have your child do a shadow day? Can you take a tour of the school?

What grade is this for, 5th?

The lack of math acceleration is really the only thing that gives me pause about Latin. If your kid is math focused, I wouldn't do it; otherwise, I absolutely would.

Yeah same decision. Not a strong math school. We didn't rank it for that reason and chose BASIS instead. But we have friends who are very happy at Latin.

Every bloody thread turns into a basis thread. If we’re in at latin, then basis fell off our list so it’s not an option any more.
