Principal Results: Retained/Fired?

Anonymous
On Friday DCPS made several key decisions about principals’ tenure in DCPS.

Some were retained, reassigned, while others were fired.

Does anyone know the results of which schools lost/retained/reassigned which principals and to where?

I know that Deal; Jackson-Reed; Banneker; SWW all retained.

This is effective immediately?

No, I think it’s for next year, but perhaps depending on the circumstances, it could be effective immediately.

When will they tell the parents?

Probably not until the last possible minute. SMH

Dunbar has been a mess this year. So many teachers quit in the middle of the year.

There’s no way principals are getting removed as the last quarter of the school year begins unless they’ve done something so egregious like showing up to school drunk.

The decisions are for next school year.

Takoma principal announced his contact was renewed. I don’t think this is in any way a surprise.

The principal who was removed or put on leave was absolutely horrible.

If any school should be closed or completely reconstituted it’s Dunbar

But then where will the 2 kids who are at grade level get their math education?

Last year they didn’t announce it until mid/late June.

Teachers have to notify dcps by April 1st if they are planning to stay without being penalized. It’d be nice to know who admin will be next year in order to make a decision.

I am not a teacher and am a frequent critic of the WTU. But this seems like an eminently reasonable request. Teachers ought to have advanced notice (where possible) if there is to be a leadership change.
