Brett Gardner’s son death

I don’t think anyone’s posted about this yet. Is anyone following this? Another mysterious death while on tropical vacation. Very sad.

Apparently most of the family developed food poisoning, and were treated by a doctor. They suspect an allergic reaction to the medication. But doesn't botulism seem more likely?

I thought I read the attending physician said the nausea med didn’t cause a reaction.

No. Botulism is related to canned goods.

This is one of the reasons we don’t travel to places like Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, or Mexico.

I would not generally lump Costa Rica in with those other countries. They don’t have the same issues.

It’s still considered Central America.

You can also get botulism from fermented foods - including food you didn't mean to ferment like baked potatoes wrapped in foil or garlic in oil.

+1 Local restaurant in the vicinity.
