"I'm under the impression it was for a funeral fly-by at Arlington Cemetary - when I worked in Crystal City, we'd see them at least once a week."

If that's the case, why didn't ATC note the traffic for other planes? And frankly why are they doing something like this now? At those speeds and altitude you have zero ability to recover if something goes wrong- which is exactly why they have separation rules the way they do.

It is an ATC issue. They failed to hold commercial traffic for a pre-scheduled Arlington flyover. Good thing we are haphazardly slashing the federal workforce.

Its time to close that airport down until they get it together. More lives will be lost if they don't clearly there having to many issues to operate safely.

Well pilots are Officers, who are usually pretty bright and have college degrees. That’s not to say there aren’t plenty of smart enlisted personnel too. As mentioned in another comment, most commercial pilots are former military. Guess you’re done flying?

No more military training or “flyovers” near DCA period. Essential transport of POTUS and VPOTUS only. Hopefully those pilots can manage not to crash. Secdef can go around. So can HHS, State, CIA, etc.
