My friends and I are hoping to plan a long weekend to a New England beach town in August (Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine are all in scope for consideration).
Some of the crew would love to visit Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket, but I’m conscientious of time and difficulty getting there since most will be flying in for the 4 day weekend. I know it’s already way later than we should have started planning, but would love advice on where to go, where to stay, what to do, where to eat, etc. |
Go to Block Island. You can leave your cars behind and take the ferry and walk/bike/cab around the island. |
+2 Newport and Block Island. |
I would not do MV or Nantucket, too much of a hassle. Newport is a good suggestion or Rockport, MA perhaps. |
Ogunquit, ME |
Are you looking specifically for beach activities or just the quaint, beach town feel? |
Are you taking the Jitney?
LOL |
Newport! |
Shelter Island, NY or Greenport, NY as a base to explore the North Fork |
I like Narraganset then you can take a day trip over to Newport. |
Duxbury |
Where are people coming from? There are direct flights to MV and Nantucket from a number of cities, including DC. And once you land it isn’t more than 15 mins to most towns on the island. |
Whatttttttt this is a weird suggestion. |
I'd look at this. These destinations may actually end up being more convenient |
Stay on the mainland. Getting out to one of the islands in the Northeast is a huge time suck for just a long weekend. Especially if you’re traveling from DC, NYC, or elsewhere.
I’d consider doing one of the towns on Fire Island. Easy flight into Islip, which is a Southwest hub. |
