No job, cannot afford Fairfax County tax hike

DH lost his job. We cannot afford higher property taxes in Fairfax County. My bill already increased $300/month this year. How can our elected officials even consider doing this to a population facing mass terminations now? While feigning caring about people losing their jobs. Do you even? This is markedly tone deaf.

According to them: they do this because the Virginia government has limited fund to fcps so they need to raise money for that.

I’m surprised to see Virginia has lower fund than 50 states

They haven’t raised taxes yet. Your assessment went up because the market value of your home went up.

The issue isn't your husband losing his job, or income, the issue is you overbought, and don't savings.

The issue for us was inflation. We aren't rich, but were fine pre-2021.

Last I checked, taxes collected from commercial real estate were not down.

The pitch I heard though. I think it's a play on words to justify. Just because commercial vacancies are up doesn't mean taxes collected decreased. I checked a few months ago. They did not decrease last I checked.

There's tons of consultants looking for work- couldn't we hire some to find ways to cut FCPS spending without affecting classroom teacher jobs and pay? I think a ton of the FCPS budget is NOT spent on classroom teachers, their supplies, or building schools. Shouldn't we check what's going on?
