Where's the Swarthmore posts?

There is almost no information about Swarthmore on DCUM, but there's many threads about Williams, Amherst, and Pomona. Why? Is it more competitive than the others or are the people here just skewed east coast and west coast? It seems like the perfect fit for DD.

Someone in another thread recently talked about colleges (like Swarthmore) "not liking" their high school. It rings true, especially in this case. We're basically in their backyard, so they're not super interested in DMV students, from what I can tell. Acceptance rate for my kids' strong public is less than 4%, even with lots of high stats applying. The students might have felt that Swarthmore was the best fit for them, or at least a very strong option, but Swarthmore felt otherwise.

It's an indoctrination camp, where unless you go by they/them/x/etc, you are ridiculed. Any you'd better be gay or bi, or else you are ostracized. Speaking from first hand experience.

No one got in from DMV schools. It's too hard. So there's no threads about SWAT since they give us no love lol!

My daughter is a freshman at Swarthmore, a graduate from a DMV public high school. She’s very happy there and feels it is a perfect fit. She was denied ED and accepted RD to Swat, Amherst, Wesleyan, and William and Mary. But ultimately she chose Swat because of its strong academics, and strong art and music programs. It’s a small college, smaller than her high school so that may be one reason you don’t hear much about it. She applied with full application including test scores, arts portfolios, and GPA. She thought she had no chance when she was deferred ED but ultimately was accepted and has found many other students in that position. I suspect Swat uses ED for first generation low income and sports students.

Look at this as a huge advertisement for Swarthmore!

I’m the poster above with the daughter at Strathmore. My daughter is heterosexual and cis gender. She has no tattoos and does not classify herself as alternative in any way. She has found a lovely group of friends there. That’s not to say other types people don’t also have a home at Swarthmore but it’s not the entirety of the student population. I would say it’s probably the most diverse group of students I’ve ever seen.

People here are so strange. Oh I’m so scared of a child with tattoos or who listens to indie music- that’s a big concern that should make a college choice! Just silly.

Swat rocks the WASP nest - it's the best!

The less talked about the better. The Williams boosters just annoy me here, and I’m an alum.

4% acceptance rate at DC's magnet school too (with a disproportionate number of NMF and US Presidential Scholar candidates in the state). Used to be 15 or so kids would apply each year. According to Naviance, 4 this year. Students have mostly given up on Swat. Agree Swat is not terribly interested in DMV high-performing schools.

Williams has an even lower acceptance rate, but it knows talent where talent is. You have to have the right contacts, but it is an amazing institution that diminishes Swarthmore

Another advertisement for Swat: you are much less likely to have to deal with people like this.
