Anywhere as long as nobody got sick. Just a happy kid with a good attitude. |
We did a road trip to Niagara Falls when DD was 7. Stopped at 2 state parks on the way up with cool hikes, 2 nights in Niagara on the Canadian side. Then went to Lake George in NY. It’s a 6 hour drive so stopped halfway at the Utica zoo to have lunch and walk around the zoo. Did 3 nights in Lake George then home. |
Maine — hiking, beaches, boating, farms, seafood, blueberries
Atlanta — good for long weekends, aquarium, history, baseball, soul food, barbecue Iceland — waterfalls, volcanoes, hiking, horses, history, seafood |
Anything adventurous, so rafting on the Rogue River, biking through national parks (youngest was on an attached ride along), exploring caves, ski trips to new destinations, snorkeling, boogie boarding, trying to surf, and horse rides in the mountains. When they were younger, Lego Land, Disneyland, and the beach were hard to beat (from their perspective).

We did Vermont last summer with our kids when they were 3 and 5 and it was great! Hiking, maple farms, a Lake Monsters minor league baseball game, maple creamees, stopping at random general stores. We all had a blast. |

Atlanta really does have a lot of variety and it's easy to get to. Both kids loved it.

My kid's a little younger (6) but I've taken him abroad a couple times because I have family in the EU.
And I have to tell you the stuff he remembers the most is playing with his cousins and the food he ate. So food and family/playing. |

We enjoyed Yellowstone as well but your kids have to be both into hiking, and okay with sitting in the car for long periods sometimes |
I’m not sure my ever disliked trips at that age. I was trying to remember and struggling to narrow down. If pressed, I’d say:
—combo of LA, Disneyland, Joshua Tree (but wouldn’t do that in Summer) —Seattle and Olympic Peninsula —Ithaca and Niagara Falls (we added in the children’s museum in Rochester which was a huge hit) If I ask my ten year old what he wants to do for vacation, he will always say Disney or the beach as his first reaction. |
