Generation Adidas Cup is a prestigious tournament hosted in the US (IMG).
MLSN clubs (academies and others) are invited to come down and play top notch international competition. This is a BOYS only tournament up until this year, when GA and MLSN formed an alliance. For the first time, girls will be admitted into this tournament. What that means is that clubs with GA/MLSN will admit their girls programs to play international talent. MI Jaguars City SC Lou Fusz CUP IMG WFF All have GA/MLSN, paving the way for girls sides to play in this years GA Cup |
| Are there international girls teams attending as well? |
TBD |
| Can ECNL Girls play? |
Why would they want to? |
No, this is an elite tournament. |
Damn. |
From SoccerWire: As part of MLS NEXT's strategic alliance with the Girls Academy, the 2025 Generation adidas Cup will feature the first-ever Girls Division. Two All-Star teams of top Girls Academy prospects and two of the best international girls clubs in the world – FC Bayern Munich and Manchester City FC – will square off against one another in a round-robin tournament at the U16 age group. 📰 https://bit.ly/GACup2025 |
So it's a closed tournament for girls. |
| Can only imagine this expanding over the years with Girls Academy teams being included more and more. |
Nothing high level is truly open, good idea to run it this first year or maybe the first few as a group of the best and then in a few years allow the GA clubs that deserve to play attend. Those international clubs will be no joke to compete against. |
| This is actually ground breaking and a big step forward in the US |
Groundbreaking? How so? |
