gentle skin products for mature sensitive skin

Anonymous
I’m late 50s with sensitive skin, dry but prone to milia. I’d appreciate recommendations for facial products, in particular a cleanser and lotion (is there such a lotion that can moisturize dry skin but not promote milia??).

Also, I have trouble with cleansers removing all of my makeup and sunscreen. I used to double cleanse, using Clinque “take the day off” balm first and I loved the product and it worked well to remove makeup/sunscreen, but (!) it caused milia. I switched to using bioderma micellar water as the first cleansing step to remove makeup/sunscreen, but it doesn’t seem to do a great job of removing the makeup - I’m using those little round disposable cotton cleansing pads, and they keep showing trace amounts of makeup even after 4-5 applications of the micellar water. Any ideas?

I have very sensitive skin but not a big problem with milia, so idk if this would work for you, but if I have a full face of makeup I just rub my whole face with argan oil before I wash it.

Neutrogena makeup remover wipes?
Take the Day Off was always too much.
I like Dr Rodgers Lotion.

I have very similar skin. I use Youth to the people superfood cleanser which is effective but Very gentle.

For moisturizer I use SkinCeuticals Emollience

One key to avoid milia is to warm your products in your hands to activate the ingredients/warm up anything that would clog your skin.

Respectfully, this makes no sense.

I was told to do this by a derm, so not sure what to tell you. Some of the products are very thick and will clog the pore for people prone to milia. Warming the products between your fingers first helps to reduce clogging oil glands, which is where milia form.

Consult a derm

You keep replying this to skin care questions on this forum. People are posting here either to crowd source or because their derm hasn’t been helpful, but they are obviously looking for something other than this response (do you also reply to every question in the Health forum with, “consult a doctor”).

Just use vanicream products. I get everything off with their cleanser and a clean washcloth.

But your face is the same temperature as your hands.

Start using a washcloth.

I have sensitive skin too .. every night, I use LUSH ultrabland (a cream cleanser) and then rub it off with a warm damp washcloth, and then I use Mario badescu enzyme cleanser (VERY gentle) and rinse with water. My skin improved almost instantly.

I use jojoba oil (or really, any oil you like) to take off my makeup before micellar water. So I rub that all over my eyes to get off eye makeup, then use a cotton pad to remove 80% of the oil. Then another cotton pad with micellar water on it to remove the rest and the oil. Then I cleanse my skin well.

OP here. Appreciate all of these suggestions. The reason I don’t use oils/balms to take off my eye makeup is because when I did, I started getting milia and clogged pores in my lashlines, even though I followed the oil/blam cleanser with a gentle nonsoap cleanser. So I switched to micellar water, but as I said, it doesn’t seem to remove my sunscreen and makeup very well.

I use micellar wipes, the Simple brand sensitive skin ones. I use those for my eye makeup too. Follow with Basis sensitive bar soap (might be too drying for you) and Olay sensitive skin moisturizer.
