DD just got accepted but we've never been. Any recent experiences you could share?

I've posted many times but I've had a oos kid there for the past 7 years including a current Junior. Both kids very happy and great academics. One was business and one pre-med. Challenging but fair and both with high GPAs (premed kid has had to study a lot but has over a 3.9). Both have met lifelong friends.
If your kid is going, here is my advice:
1. Hotel rooms are no joke. Go ahead and book for move-in now. If your kid is rushing, will start a week earlier - you can check dates with panhellenic. Spring Hill Suites by campus has secure parking which you want and I think you can ship dorm stuff there and they'll hold it for you in a conference room. Ask. Also good: Hyatt Place, Gameday Condos
2. Sign up for housing right away the second it opens - probably monday morning. get everything lined up this weekend. If she gets a roommate who is EA, she'll jump to that person's priority spot, otherwise, she's going to want to be at the front of the RD signups.
3. Sign up for orientation the second it opens and get the earliest one you can. Even though they open up seats all summer long, still easier to get schedule you want if you have an early orientation date. They won't tell you exactly when signups will start. Check at midnight. Check at 6 am Eastern. SAdly, this is one you gotta stalk.

This is really helpful. Any idea when the orientation emails start coming out?

My son was an EA admit. We visited the school two weeks ago and were both blown away. He is choosing UGA over UF, Clemson, FSU, Penn State, and VT. We did the 'New DAWGS' day, but honestly, I think the admitted student tour would be just as good. For the tours and New Dawgs Day, keep checking for openings, since spots do open up ( This is how we got ours).
