6 flags Maryland?

Anyone been? I've always thought it to be a hotbed for violence (there used to be a lot of gang related activity there.) Season passes are super cheap $50/person and we live nearby in PG County so it would be so convenient to go for a few hours here or there - but was wondering if anyone has experience there?

We won't go, it is still a mess

I am still entirely baffled by the hysteria that surrounds that theme park. Avoided it for years because of the dramatic reviews but then went for a job (with kids) and it was like any other theme park I've been too. Yes there are black people there, so if you generally avoid black people, you should avoid the park too.

i've never seen gang activity there... i had season tickets a couple years ago because i live close by. but the park is just more run down than others. i tend to prefer kings dominion.

Well, given that I live in PG County and my kids go to school in PG County - I don't avoid black people. Is it comparable to Hershey?

I went with my 8 y.o. DS this summer and we had a blast. Only trepidation I'd have is if my child was too short to ride any of the fun stuff.

Went for the 1st time in May with 3 year old and 16 month old. It was awesome & not even crowded. The park is small (grew up in NJ and had season passes to the one there) in comparison to Great Adventure in NJ. My 3 year old and I never even waited at all for any ride. I didn't get that overwelming feeling & I thought it was really clean and the employees were really nice.

With that said, I know that is was just before summer & the water park wasn't open yet.

When we had season passes growing up in NJ, my family would go first thing in the morning (my sister & brother were toddlers & mom would pack lunches) and go to the kiddie/water park. We would stay for a few hours, but it def. paid for itself after 2 trips.

I agree with 15:08. It's not Kings Dominion, but it's fine it you're not stuck up.

We are going this Saturday - our second time this summer. Main purpose is that 3yo DS is a train fanatic and the new Thomas Town was a big hit last time. Other than that, as a newly arrived foreigner, I have to say it was an interesting cultural experience...

After experiencing outrageous prices at the Prince William County Fair, we decided to go to Six Flags in August with our 3 kids (age 7, 5.5 and 4). The kids LOVED it. It's not Disney but all the rides were working, the lines weren't bad, the bathrooms were clean and the water in the waterpark seemed extremely clean given the amount of people and kids in it. We upgraded to season passes for the rest of the year. Of course, there were black people and one weekend it was Telemundo day and there were lots of Hispanic people but never once did we feel uncomfortable - much less see any evidence of illicit activity. On weekend my mom was here and DH and I dashed out for an afternoon of fun without the kids. We had a blast on the rollercoasters. However, anything you purchase in the park is expensive. We brought refillable water bottles and packed a lunch.

We love amusements parks and have been to practically all the local ones except King's Dominion.

Six Flags does not have the charm, "niceness" of the other parks we visit. When rating the parks, it is easily at the bottom of the list. Parking price is ridiculous as is food prices and all other knick knacks you buy at places like that.

But you know what? My 4 year old and 2 year old had a great time and so did we. We went on a Sunday in August and I was surprised it wasn't super busy (granted, we were mainly riding the kiddie rides) and I found the crew members to be helpful.

So go. Have fun. The seas tickets are a great price. One word of warningsince we did look into buying season tickets - parking is not included. I would have bought sseason tickets if it did include parking, but we are way too frugal to shell out $13 or whatever for parking each tim e we went. The extra discounts don't seem to be that great either. Just look into that aspect of the season passes.

18:39, what amusement parks do you like?

LOL that everyone is saying it's not as nice as KD. I used to live in Richmond and everyone there thinks that KD is "low class" or whatever you want to call it and Busch Gardens is the "classy" park.

Personally, I think Busch Gardens and Hershey Park are beautiful and the rest of them are just regular amusement parks. I don't feel any more safe at KD or Busch Gardens than I do at Six Flags and we have a great time at all of them.

PS - Re parking at Six Flags. They have a promo right now where if you buy a season pass for 2011, you get the rest of 2010 included plus free parking for 2011.

19:12 - we honestly find something nice and special about all the parks we've been to and I wouldn't consider us amusement park snobs. It's just that 6 Flags can't compare to any of them in design terms, charm terms, whatever and yet we still had a nice time.

Dutch Wonderland is probably our favorite. The other ones are special too - Busch Gardens, Hershey (although I tend to find it a little overwhelming. Our kids are only 4 and 2 though so I'm sure as they get older we will go to Hershey more often and DW less). Kennywood in Pittsburgh is a personal favorite of mine but that's because that was the park I went to as a kid.
