How to decompress

Anonymous
With the ridiculousness of this administration and daily grind, how are you decompressing and finding joy? For me, I take comfort in hiking and biking in nature with my family. Away from everything. Its a great reset. I also take in the news thru late night comedy. I love to cook. How are you decompressing? I need more ideas to help my mental health..

I take a hot bath at night. I read novels.

Trying to do small things to send decency out in the world.

If you go on a walk, bring a trash bag and some gloves to pick up trash. When you cook, make an extra portion to share with an elderly neighbor.

I’m getting my tween/teen to help, because I want them to learn that being an a-hole is not okay.

Watch funny sitcoms with my family. It’s the perfect way to end the day.

I'm reading more and way less screens at night. Still suck at meditating.

This.

Recently, I started adding a cup of kava tea. 50 min later, I myself am liquid.

For me a hot shower at the end of the day, plus taking my truck me with the my skincare routine, and then putting on really cozy, comfortable lounge clothes helps a lot. Sometimes I do it right after work, sometimes right before bed.

Working out always helps me decompress but I've been having trouble motivating lately, so to make up for it I've been walking instead of driving as much as possible. The longer the walk, the better, so I can go fast and work up a sweat. Sometimes I wear headphones and listen to an audiobook or music to stop myself from ruminating.

Reading, exercising, and lots of crafty stuff---knitting, crochet, sewing, needlepoint, embroidery.

I keep music on in the background and try to avoid TV news. I do watch some local news while doing dinner prep, but I am 100% over cable news programs that rely on pundits.
