Conan as Oscars Host -- S/O

I thought he was great. Very likeable and relatable. As one article said, he understood the assignment and controlled the stage and night. His jokes were fine, could have been better.

I was surprised how comfortable and not nervous he was. He didn't try too hard.

He should be invited back.

Tell me again why he disappeared from the public in last decade? What has he been doing?

And I thought his statement about LA and why they were still having the Oscars was done well. He is well spoken (I know he is well educated with successful parents).

I agree that he handled the serious part well. His jokes were funny and not mean.

Obviously, some of it appeared improvised when he talked about what people were wearing, but it all seemed well done.

I just read his parents passed away within a few weeks of each other in December (2024).

Love Conan, but surprised you were surprised at his comfort level. He hosted very successful late night talk shows for almost 3 decades. It’s an incredibly high-pressure environment. He also is a stand-up comedian and does traveling shows so it probably stood up in front of live audiences hundreds if not thousands of times.

I get that this is a bigger stage, but he is well loved by everyone in that room has really earned his stripes.

Thought he was great. Thought the no going to waste your time song was dumb. If you’re going to do a song make it Billy Crystal clever.

I liked him a lot. He was poised and funny without trying hard or going on and on. Zero cringe and I cringe easily.

Conan has a very successful podcast too. He is very likable.

He wasted a lot of time with his stupid song and some bad jokes but he was fine. The way he kept repeating “fun facts” that had just been stated by the announcers or winners was also dumb.

I was surprised because I had assumed he has been out of the limelight and this was the chance to have a comeback career. And because so many talented people bomb this gig and know they will be hyper criticized. But I guess he has continued his career. I just don’t hear much about him.

Sorry did not see this thread before posting in Oscars

PP said her teen said that Conan looked like E Musk and she could see the resemblance in their foreheads or something …

Response 1

Eeek just nooo. That’s like saying a white Chevrolet SSR (Conan) looks the same as a white Tesla cyber truck (Musk) because they both have smooth front hoods.

Conan is impish, and quirky in a fun, self-depreciating and warm way.

The shadow president is a grumpy troll, and quirky in a callous, tone deaf, and arrogant way.

Apart from their vibes being so different, they don’t look alike at all.

Teenagers often seem to think everyone over the age of 50 with similar skin tones look the same.

Response 2

Conan did a great job - fun, silly, empathetic in right spots …

His podcasts “Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend” and “Conan O'Brien Needs a Fan” helped get me through the pandemic.

It is trademark Conan and included guests such as Ted Danson, Woody Harrelson, Will Arnett, Jane Fonda, Eric Andre, and Lisa Kudrow

It is Goofy and brainy and humble - his legacy continues …

BTW - He graduated from Harvard 40 years ago with a degree in History & Literature (magna cum laude and was also the editor of The Harvard Lampoon for two years). Many Harvard grads rub me the wrong way but he is great.
