Traveling to Texas with a baby

Anonymous
We have a wedding to attend (young 20s couple) in two months and Rubella is blazing through San Antonio. Our baby will be 6 months an not yet vaccinated. Would you travel?
Anonymous
Hell no. Not worth the risk.

yes just bring a sitter

I would not give them the measles risk. It’s not only the people you’ll be around in Texas, but the thousands of people you’ll interact with and the airport. Measles is so contagious that it will be still be in the air two hours after someone leaves the room

Technically anywhere besides the wedding could be a risk - eating out, the plane, etc.

You could go without the child, just "quarantine" yourself away from your child for a week after you return.
Good time for other family to have the baby to fuss over.

Absolutely not.

Our pediatrician seemed worried about the airplane risk with measles. Not overly so but recommended I cover the car seat during the flight - after hearing that, I decided against going south with baby.

It's my husband's family's event. We bought tickets before the outbreak in West Texas and now it's in San Antonio and we're flying there, driving up to Dallas and flying out.

Super bummed because we couldn't attend the last family event because it was an out of town no kids event.

No!
Not worth it.
Bride and groom really don't care that much, no matter what your relationshipis. They will be focused on themselves and future. Also, a baby on an airplane and staying somewhere else--not fun! Send a gift and regrets.

Yes the sitter will be a great defense to the measles floating around.

Keep the baby home Op.

Heck yeah. 200 people in a crowded space with limited ventilation all going to/from a place with a measles epidemic. What could possibly go wrong for an unvaxxed newborn?

Our pediatrician says they can vaccinate kids as early as six months. Ask your pediatrician and do not crowdsource this on DCUM

Baby will be almost 6 months so unfortunately under that at the time of the trip.

I appreciate everyone's thoughts. I think unfortunately me and the baby will need to stay back. I'm getting the flower girl vaccinated a second time early and having Dad get his titres checked before he goes. Just sucks.
