I suspect that Stone Bridge will be much improved this season. Only time will tell.

Why do you have Yorktown over Madison?

I’m not convinced Madison has a solution against #3 Yorktown. I think it will come down to who has the hotter hand tomorrow.
3 YT or 5 Madison.

So sad to no longer have McLean on this list

1. Independence

Analysis: Defending Class 5 State Champions went 19-2 last season open the 2026 season as the team to beat in their first year in Class 6. Indy lost some key senior talent all over the field, but they return an all-state attack and LSM and the 2026 class has been playing together forever. They have a cake schedule and could head into the playoffs undefeated.

Up Next: No games this week

2. Robinson

Analysis: Perennial contender that is well coached and always in the mix. They will have to lean on their athletic defense more than ever as the offense has run through their All-State attackman who is now at York and they will have to find a new identity. They return the top defender and one of the top faceoff guys who has turned into more of an offensive weapon. He will be the guy teams now lock in on. Big test in their first game as Robinson’s Penn State pole squares off against Yorktown’s Penn State A commit.

Up Next: 3/17 v. Yorktown, 3/21 v. McLean

3. Battlefield

Analysis: Battlefield must have been dreading Indy’s move to Class 6 – their easy ride to the #1 seed on Cedar Run is over. Indy took it to Battlefield early last season and Battlefield may have to settle for the #2 seed this season. Still, they return and all-state attack and second team All-State midfielder and should have more offensive firepower than in the past few seasons when they were more reliant on defense and goaltending. Really tough schedule this season with Madison and Yorktown out of conference, plus Severna Park and South River early. They will take some losses but be tested come playoff time.

Up Next: 3/17 v. Colgan

4. Yorktown

Analysis: Yorktown lost a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball, but return probably the best scoring threat in the state. Teams are going to overload on him early and some new faces at Yorktown are going to have to step up to give him an outlet. Lots of questions marks on the back end and it remains to be seen if defense will be a liability. Brutal first stretch with Robinson and Madison to open will give the Patriots an early test.

Up Next: 3/17 @ Robinson, 3/21 v. Madison

5. Langley

Analysis: Langley would have been one of the top two teams in the rankings and a state title contender until their first team all-State attack went down with an unfortunate injury in the preseason. It is hard to replace 70+ goals and over 100 points in public school lacrosse and the rest of the seniors are really going to have to make some big strides for Langley to contend. Top FOGO and goalie will keep them in games, but a brand new defense may need time to develop. Tough test in week one.

Up Next: 3/17 vs. Madison

6. Madison

Analysis: Madison is another well-coached team like Robinson that is just always in the mix. They lost their all-everything CNU commit, plus much of their defense and goalie, and will need to do some rebuilding. They return a stud midfielder/attack and some complementary offensive weapons and should remain in the hunt. Would not be surprised to see them beat Langley in the opener. With Langley, Yorktown, Robinson, STAB, and West Potomac as five of their first six games, there is no doubt that Madison will get tested early.

Up Next: 3/17 v. Langley, 3/21 v. Yorktown

7. West Potomac

Analysis: Defending Class 6 state champs lost their state POY Jacksonville commit and the offense is going to have to run through someone new. They may not have a guy like last year who could create his own looks from anywhere, but they have a strong returning attack and some athletes at midfield and defense who can keep them competitive. A bit of a rebuild but they should be competitive in a lot of games.

Up Next: 3/17 v. Washington Liberty

8. Oakton

Analysis: Oakton has a solid season last year and return some key pieces at attack and midfield. Will need to do some work at faceoff and goal. Strong and athletic team that play hard and will be in the mix in a somewhat down year across the league. Reports of a strong freshman class but unclear yet if they will make any noise in season one.

Up Next: 3/19 @ Woodson, 3/21 @ West Springfield

9. Chantilly

Analysis: Chantilly made some noise last season and pumped in a ton of goals, but struggled on the defensive side at times. They return the Concorde offensive POY and first team midfielder, but lost their top FOGO and defender. Could be an up and down season with a lot of high scoring shootouts.

Up Next: 3/17 @ Lake Braddock, 3/21 @ Bishop O’Connell

10. Herndon

Analysis: Herndon returns a top attack unit anchored by the big York commit and a top LSM, but need to replace a lot of depth from last year’s senior class, including in goal. Should finish at least #3 in Liberty with a chance to knock off Langley or Yorktown on any given night.

Up Next: 3/17 v. South Lakes

Also Considered: Westfield, Lake Braddock, Woodson

They hung 18 on Chantilly. Does Chantilly have a goalie problem?

If O’Connell nets 18, you have a D problem at least.

Seems, as if, the perceived struggles for Madison were greatly exaggerated.
