USC and Columbia Protests

Student protests have changed the course of history - Vietnam, Tiannamen, May 4th, Soweto, and many of the gun violence protests in the US. I'm heartened to see the students leading the charge against genocide here. LEt's hope that they put enough pressure on our government - and government around the world - to put an end to Israeli terror.

Question: why aren’t they - and you - demanding Hamas surrender and release all hostages?

Trying to get out of them, duh.

Yep. One of their demands was “full amnesty” for taking part in these protests. I hope they’re given failing grades instead.

What a bunch of hypocrites. If they believed in their cause so much, why not show your face?

I think they’re cowards. While I have mixed feelings about the protests, I think the people who show their faces have more legitimacy in my eyes than the cowards who hide behind masks.

She says from behind her keyboard supporting genocide. Gotcha.

Hamas could have stopped this long time ago by returning the hostages. I see a lot of blame towards Israel, but none towards Hamas.

I am also not the one out there, protesting for what I believe in. If I would, I would not have my face covered.

Exactly. No demands against Hamas, no condemnation of them, no demands to return the hostages Hamas seized. So it’s very clear these are Hamas supporters.

I was going to say that I would be disheartened if there weren't protests. It's not shocking they are happening as Universities are traditionally where we have passion and knowledge coinciding. This is where young people make a stand and it's the right thing to stand against what's happening to an entire people.

Civil rights movement was also led by students. The Freedom Riders were all student activists, and we still marvel at their bravery today. The youth always change the world.

And in keeping with historical traditions, the angry 40+ year old holding onto old world atrocities are trying to yell and beat them down.

These kids don't even have an ounce of the courage and moral values the Civil Rights Movement had. They are mixed up terrorist cheerleaders fighting for the rights of Hamas to kill Jews freely, asking for Jews to stop fighting back when attacked.

The ignorance of these protesters - and the posters here, like PP - is astounding and pathetic.

Wow- They've got plenty of money behind this. 40+ college campuses with several more not even listed here. Great points made by some people that the tents look awfully awfully similar/same brand/size in many pictures and locations. College kids that are dorming obviously don't have their own tents with them, or live very very far away from home even if they have one. There is big $ behind this like Soros and other Democrats.

I'm so confused. First, you try to convince us that anti-semitism has everyone fearful for their lives - even though the "body count" of Jewish victims in this sea of anti-semitism is exactly one Yalie who space invaded a protest where a flag brushed against her face, resulting in the "stabbed in the eye" trope we just sorted out last week. One Jewish student whose face was brushed by a flag she walked into, and then of course the kids in the library with sensory disorders that afflict them with excruciating pain when hearing loud knocks on doors.

NOW, you're not scared and you DEFINITELY wouldn't even have your face covered if you were out there. Doesn't sound very scared to me.

So which one is it? Are people scared for their safety or not?

You forgot to mention the Red Guards. They really changed things in China.

And of course the students involved in the 1905 revolution in Russia.

That's 50 million plus deaths that can be partially attributed to student movements.

So let's not pretend that the kids always get it right....

Because that’s old effing news man. Everyone wanted the hostages out. We all supported the release at the beginning and still do. Stop assuming that everyone who thinks Israel is a corrupt pariah state does so because they hate Jews. They’re just sick of watching IDF leaders admit that they dropped bombs in areas knowing that young children would die or be dismembered.

Get a grip.

I’m confused…. Are these university endowment funds invested in Hamas? Is the US government providing weapons of war to Hamas? What could the kids possible demand of their universities in regards to Hamas? They’ve already been sanctioned to oblivion and everyone doesn’t even have food now…

Of course, through the ether you’re just replying to a propaganda mule who can barely contain their glee as the death toll in Gaza rises day after day.

You are confused. Universities are absolutely funding, supporting, and enabling Hamas. Any protester seriously interested in peace should be calling for the following, at a minimum:

1. Fire faculty members who explicitly support and propagandize on behalf of Hamas (multiple examples; remember the prof who was "exhilarated" by 10/7).

2. Expel students who meet with Hamas affiliates to coordinate propaganda efforts. See the Columbia student leaders who met with PFLP terrorist.

3. Defund and remove recognition from student groups that explicitly support Hamas. See Harvard organizations who issued statement post 10/7, among others.

Oh, if only we could allow Zionists to call even more shots on U.S. soil.

Sorry, thought you wanted a serious answer to your question about how universities are supporting Hamas. Didn't realize you just wanted to engage in name-calling.

Let's do it your way. Terrorist.

You make a somewhat reasonable observation in that divesting from Hamas is near impossible and/or essentially already accomplished - but then wrap up your statement with editorial that makes it impossible to have a conversation.

No one will speak so long as words like "colonialist" and "genocide" are baked into the rubric.

The voices of the small number of peacemakers out there are being drowned out by waves of anonymous internet armchair warriors.
