DeSantis and FL moving to hammer Disney

Disney has acknowledged they have lost the Reedy Court district. The district no longer exists as a legal entity.
Disney cannot challenge that, and instead sue Ron DeSantis, because if they did the would have a billion dollars in bonds that would be called in. Someone could place a lien on the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT.

1 billion? A simple google search shows that Disney has 10 billion cash on hand. It's more of a problem for Florida.

How is it a problem for Florida? That whole thing about taxpayers having to take over expenses, was bogus.
The spending would be taken over by taxing the residents->Disney.

The bigger problem is this district was never owned by Disney. It was supposed to be a separate entity, that was created because Walt Disney wanted to make a city.
After he passed, the company just built Magic Kingdom and EPCOT instead. They put their people on the board for Reedy Creek, putting them in trailers as the 'residents'.

From the article it looks like they are not paying for police who worked exclusively at Disney.
Disney was running the district for its own benefit, and now some other taxpayers are not being forced to subsidize Disney.
Although most of these other businesses probably get their money from being next to Disney.

Politico intentionally did a poor job of explaining this. Disney use to pay for the police through Reedy Creek Improvement District but now DeSantis has taken over that and renamed it. This means the government now has to pay for everything Disney use to pay for through Reedy Creek Improvement District. As a result the residents and businesses in the area are now facing huge property tax increases over 2-3 years(Florida has a max increase per year on property taxes).

Bottom line the DeSantis people now have to fund over 200 million per year that Disney use to pay for. They will also cut fire and rescue services. They will try to cut everything but their own salaries. Remember Disney ran and paid for everything a county government would and now this has to be funded through property taxes.

The genius of GOP governance.

Megyn Kelly goes pretty hard on DeSantis here. And interesting that as a longtime Fox News employee she jumps to the sexual harassment analogy.

Why? Is pudding fingers guilty of that too?

Between the tax increases for the business improvement district, and the massive insurance rate hikes for Floridians, the whole "tax free state" thing is looking pretty bad.

More senior centers and rec center classes and library events for seniors are being introduced here every day. The colleges and Smithsonians have programs. If you want the beach, yes, you need to move to Florida. Otherwise here is not bad. Our winters are not even real winters anymore.
