Passport renewal

We are hoping to renew passports that expire in June 2026 after an international trip in June 2025. Has anyone renewed recently? How long did it take?

We renewed shortly before Thanksgiving and had the passports in hand by mid December. We did not do expedited. My recommendation is to renew in the fall.

I heard that most of the fed involved with renewals are fired, so it might be very, very, very slow to impossible at this point.

We applied for two kid passports on 1/25 (they had old ones but they are technically “new” since they are kids) and a renewal for DH. The kids passports came to us in 3 weeks, non-expedited. DH’s has been processed and approved but not yet received. I’m assuming soon though.

Can you provide a source to backup this claim?

Based on today's OMB memo, most feds will be fired starting on April 13th.

I would renew passports immediately.

If you are an adult and renewing you can do that online.

We submitted the DS renewal (technically a new one since he's 15) last week. We were told it would take 4-6 weeks for non-expedited. We shall see when it arrives.

We had two appointments for renewal for our minor kids (renewal, but it’s like a new app for that age) canceled at USPS facilities for lack of staff. Finally got an appointment at a library and they said 4-6 weeks but that’s very optimistic given a potential shutdown and mass layoffs occurring. We tried to get this all done before the election but since it had to be in person, we were limited in our schedule. Make sure to give yourself lots and lots of time

I did an online renewal last month and had my new passport in hand in just over 2 weeks. I was shocked how fast it was.

We did online renewals same day in mid-February with faster shipping but not expedited. My husband already has his. I’m still waiting.

Same here. Online renewal, not expedited, received 2 weeks later. My husband’s took about 3 weeks. We just had appointments for the kids last week, so we’ll see how long that takes.

I'm this PP. Husband's came yesterday. So his took a month. Kids took 3 weeks. No paid expedited service or shipping. Mine doesn't expire until late 2026 or I would have done mine early just to get it over with.

This. If you do it right now and expedite, you might get them done. I’m serious. If not, you may have to wait until 2029.

Several people on this thread have already contradicted this.
