This was the first I've actually heard from tump on this.
End of having a Mayor? He cited crime and homeless encampments. |
| You’d think he’d try winning a few of his battles before picking more. Still waiting on those egg prices to come down and the immigration raids. Where are they? |
|
I mean, when you have feral girl gangs running the streets killing men and getting away with it, or ongoing street shootings leaving innocent children dead or fighting for the lives - and nothing changes ever - is this such a bad thing? D.C. can't seem to get its sh*t together long enough to elect capable leadership. Biden's secret service detail were carjacked in Georgetown while on duty, for pity's sakes. This is not just bad, it's ridiculous.
Maybe this is not a bad thing. D.C. has had bad leadership for decades. |
| He won't. End of story. |
The federal government is already in charge of "all things crime" in DC. Now that you know that, what is your argument? |
That the federal government should start enforcing it. If they do nothing else but stop young boys and men in DC from killing and maiming each other that would be a win. What DC is doing isn't working. In 2023 the murder rate was as high as it's been in almost 30 years. |
| He should start by letting dcps bring back proper suspensions. Stuff that would get kids arrested in public isn’t even punished in dcps. If kids don’t learn that actions have consequences, they turn feral. |
That would require him to acknowledge he hasn't been winning his battles but he is incapable of that |
| Something needs to be done as current system isn't working. |
| I am not a fan of the feds taking over DC, but we can't continue with the current mayor and council. It is not only the crime but also the corruption of the Bowser administration. We need change. Bowser must go. She is one of the worst majors in DC history. |
They could do that nationwide, why focus just on DC? There are loits of tactics to use to achieve this, but Trump is defunding them and firing the people who deal with it. |
Homelessness and crime are problems nationwide, not just in DC. Why do you think an authoritarian can deal with it any better than anyone else? there are over a million 311 calls made each year. I hope they all end up at Jim Jordan's desk. |
| How come the earlier thread on Trump's threat to take control of DC was erased, but not this one |
| The feds already essentially control DC they just haven't flexed their muscles lately. In the dark '90s we had a control board and much more intervention/interference from the congressional oversight committee. I don't know how Trump takes over on the executive side but maga could already just ramp up the oversight through the congressional committee |
| I don’t understand why the Rs don’t focus their efforts on actually using their existing authority to make the changes they want (like criminal justice). |
