Does anyone know when Banneker’s second batch of interviews will be? |
There are interviews happening this week. |
Is that the end of the interviews or will there be more scheduled? |
There’s an interview day this Wednesday 2/19 and a second interview day next Wednesday 2/26. |
Last Wednesdays interviews are rescheduled to tomorrow |
Did anyone's child get a Banneker interview and NOT get in in previous years? (if they didn't get into a higher ranked option, or it was their first choice) |
Yes, last year. We got an interview but it was VERY perfunctory (and I think we were in one of the last waves, maybe second-to-last). |
What types of questions did they ask that felt perfunctory? Did you compare it to someone else’s Banneker interview? (My kid is interviewing this week.) |
First they interview the kid, then they pull in the adult. When I joined, the two interviewers didn't bother to introduce themselves. That's when I got a sense that this was perfunctory. No admission was the subsequent decision, though we didn't find out until lottery results date. (This may have just been an isolated incident. So maybe don't read too much into it.) |
Thank you for sharing this. I hope your kid wound up at a school they like! |
No one asked, but I will say that I was very impressed with Banneker’s interview set up today. It was a well oiled machine. Efficient, organized, and friendly. Best of luck to the families that have applied and or have interviewed already. |
My older child got an interview in the last wave and got in. Younger child got an interview in the first wave and did not. YMMV |
Thank you. ![]() |
My kid got an email from Banneker this morning for an interview next week so it seems like another round has gone out.
The letter mentioned only an interview, for those that have already gone, will there also be a wrirting portion at the same time? |
Yes. We were there yesterday. Check in, get assigned to a panel, kid goes off w/current student(s) to write a 10-min essay, kid comes back to get you, they go in to an interview panel while you sit in the hall, and then the panels calls in parent(s). Super efficient, even though I suspect now that it isn't a great fit school-wise for my kid! They were all awesome and nice. The kids we talked to were very impressive. And the building itself is to die for. |
