Kiawah Island

Anonymous
I am looking at taking my kids to Kiawah Island late April. I am hoping we will see some of the wildlife on the island. I am especially hoping to see alligators and dolphins. If you have been to the island can you share what you saw and if you felt safe around the alligators. My kids are preteens and I won’t be taking any pets.

Been there a handful of times and have never seen an alligator (despite looking).

You can see dolphins off the beach anywhere. We always see them at the MD/DE beaches in the summer.

You can always take them to the nature center on island – we saw an alligator once (we’ve been 6 times) but we typically go in the summer and they stay in the waters because it’s too hot on land. When it’s cooler out sometimes they are known to be on the golf courses to warm themselves. You can do nature tours as well through the resort where you can do dolphin encounters, etc..

“Feet safe around the alligators” not sure what you mean by that… If you do encounter one, get the hell out of there. They’re not domesticated in anyway.

They’re alligators OP, not domesticated pets.

Walk the golf course trails. Gators everywhere. I don't worry so much on land. Don't go near them obviously and don't go near ponds.

I have seen alligators there. And no I did not feel safe and got out of there immediately.

I saw alligators while using the bike path. Sometimes you're past them before you realize you just biked past a big gator. Saw them in the ponds and on the paths by inland condos too.

I would do Hilton Head over Kiawah.

There are alligators everywhere on Kiawah. My kids saw a bobcat there too.

we've seen many alligators on kiawah near the golf courses - there is also an alligator safari that they offered that i took my kids on who were elementary age and i felt like we were a little on the close side to the last gator visit. haven't seen any dolphins there but i've seen them in beaufort sc

Saw an alligator near a kids' playground. With no pets and older kids, you'll be fine, but don't mess with the gators.

Remember the kid who was killed by an alligator near Disney a few years back?

It was at Disney (Grand Floridian) but at the water's edge. Stay away from the water.
