I live in McLean and am considering a preschool gymnastics class at either Dynamic (Falls Church location) or Dominique Dawes. They are the same distance from our house. Which is considered the better school, and which will have more McLean families?
Also considering just signing her up for classes at each and seeing which one she can get into for the next stage -- all the other classes except toddler classes are on waitlist. |
| In what world are those gyms equidistant from your house? Also - it’s preschool. Look at Little Gym or something that’s closer and easier to get into classes. |
| I don’t know what to tell you but they are the same distance — 23 mins to one, 20 mins to the other. Hoping someone else can answer the actual questions! |
| I thought, based on your earlier post, that we decided gymnastics is too dangerous for girls. |
| From McLean you have million other options that don't involve driving into Maryland. The Arlington Y has gymnastics. Arlington County has a Greta program, but getting a spot as a non-resident is almost impossible. But for preschool gymnastics, My Gym or Little Gym are absolutely fine. Find a place close to you and go there. Don't drive over the Legion Bridge for preschool gymnastics. |
| Her had a good experience with Dominique Dawes. We found it kind and safe. Our DD ultimately decided it was not for her when she progressed to the high bar of the uneven bars—that leap was scary and we didn’t pressure her to continue. No experience with Dynamic. |
OP here - don’t know if you are referring to me but I have never posted about gymnastics before (and never posted in the Sports forum either). |
The Arlington Y is further from my house than Dynamic and actually Dawes is 3 mins closer than Dynamic. I didn’t come here for general recs on gymnastics programs - I’m just looking for comments from people with experience with either of the two specific programs I asked about — which one is better and which has more families from McLean. I’ve never been on this sports forum before so maybe it’s not a useful one to post in…. |
| You might have better in camps, classes, playgroups.. |
| I think you must be new to the area. Bridge traffic is unbearable, especially with all the Feds RTO. Stop fighting and listen to people. |
No one from McLean is going to Dawes for preschool gymnastics. No one drives over the river for preschool gymnastics, not even the most insane parents convinced their child is going to the Olympics I've had the misfortune of knowing. I've been the preschool program director for multiple gyms. I'm telling you it largely does not matter where you go. Find a place close to you that is clean, prioritizes safety, and makes it fun. Don't go driving all over for preschool gymnastics. I recommended Arlington Y because they are on the same side of the bridge and I like their program. But if you are dead set on driving from McLean to Montgomery county, by all means, go right ahead. |
| Wherever you can get a spot. We were on the waitlist for a preschool gymnastics class at Dynamic and still didn't have a spot when she'd aged out of that class. |
| We thought the Arlington YMCA classes were better than Dynamic. They had more conditioning and taught more skills. |
