I use chatgpt like a friend/ therapist/ coach and it’s kind of amazing

Which is also terrifying in a way.
But truly I ask it health/ psychological/ career and ethical qs every day that I can’t just call a friend and badger them about and it gives amazing advice.
Anyone else doing this?

I do, I find it better than most therapists.

I thought it would be interesting to use it for couples communication - like one person can input what they want to say, and it can translate it into communication the other spouse can understand.

The advice is so generic it did open my eyes to how terrible 99 percent of all therapists must be.

You have to know what to ask, though. If you have run of the mill life stressors, ai therapy is ok. If you have more serious issues, you need real help. I agree that many therapists are, perhaps, hot messes/they suck; however, there is a need for competent therapists who know their stuff and who hold boundaries which help their clients improve their lives. I've tried ai and I wasted money on a kooky T. Both have left me recognizing I need professional help. If only I had the $$$$ or the good ones took insurance.

AI is not objective and is designed to benefit the person who created it [not you] so I really don’t think it’s a good idea to use it in this way. Why would you want to give that kind of power to people who want to exploit you for their own profit?

You are sharing personal information with the company that provides the chatbot.

There have been cases of people using ai avatars that have killed themselves because th chatbot told them to.

You are further disconnecting from other people.

NP. This worries me. It also worries me to share all of my or our collective weaknesses with it. So easily coukd be exploited.

Claude Sonnet is way better for this, both in terms of conversational tone and privacy. Obviously you are taking a chance with any AI company, but i trust Anthropic way more than I trust OpenAI. Claude is very, very engaging on these sorts of topics.

Yes, I kind of talk to it sometimes.

I use AI a lot for work and I have never had the slightest urge to do this. What kinds of personal questions could a person ask if?
