sliced apples in kids lunches

if you slice them-how do I keep them from turning brown? I prefer not to buy the pre-sliced ones and my son has missing teeth so it's hard for him to bite into one whole.

squeeze a little lemon juice on them.

Or orange juice.

Or lime juice.

I put them in a bowl with water and a little orange juice for a minute or two, then in a plastic container. (My kids don't like the taste if I use lemon or lime juice.)

op here-that's what I am concerned about too. If he tastes lemon-he won't eat them.

Fruitfresh. Or any other form of ascorbic acid.

Also, ascorbic acid is just a form of vitamin C, so it's not harmful.

21:46 here. Putting them in a bowl of diluted OJ works great. It's enough citric acid to keep them from browning but it doesn't affect the taste at all. They just taste like plain apples.

I recently saw a recommendation to sprinkle them with cinnamon. Since the cinnamon is brown, they won't notice that the apple has started to turn brown (which only changes the appearance, not the taste or nutrition).

I find it also helps to put them in a container (or plastic wrap) such that the slices are still together. I'd slice the apple using my apple slicer/corer, then put half the apple cut-side down in a tupperware. The other half was either for breakfast or went in my lunch.

Or smear them with peanut (or soy) butter.

You don't sprinkle lemon juice -- too tart. Make a mixture of lemon juice and water in which to dip the apple slices as soon as you cut them. You can't really taste the lemon.

water is the lemon juice/water ratio I need?

I'm the OJ poster, and I think I use about a cup or two of water with about 1/4 cup of OJ. I've never measured, but I hate to waste a lot of OJ so I think I use only about 1/4 cup. I'd imagine you'd need about the same amount of lemon juice v. water.

Our kids have teeth to bite into them.
