Remake a team

Does anyone have experience being cut from a team and making it back again?

I’ve seen it over the years. DS played for PSA in the early years. He was sent from A to B and after 3 years to C. However, he chose instead to take the season off and then worked his way back up at other clubs. There were kids he played with at PSA who went from B to C and back to B. Many years later, those original team designations mean nothing. He recently told me one of the kids who got cut from the B team when they were young plays for PSAs A team now. DS plays for the A team at another large club. He has a friend who started on one of Bethesda’s lowest teams at u10 and was on the top team 2 years later and eventually moved to DC United where he’s been a starter. If kids have talent and drive, they can find their way back

Rare. Coaches often establish their own narratives about a player and find it hard to come to grips about them being good enough to make it again.

This. Cut YOUR loss - one coaches trash is another coaches treasure.

Exactly. Take the L, use it as anger train harder and down the road thank the coach, preferably with a middle finger.

I've seen something like it, more the player not making the higher team (despite some promises, so kinda like a cut), leaving the club and later come back to get that top team. I think some clubs also change age group after a 2 year cycle, so that can be a factor.

I've wondered why a D or E string player would be cut only to have the coaches start over with new players. It doesn't make sense to cut those low level players if they consistently show up to play because they will probably never make it to the ECNL level anyway. Why remove them from the program in that case?

We had this happen with our daughter years ago. Cut from the B team and sent down to the C team. She was 11. It was the best thing that could have happened to her.

Made the B team again the next year (same coach who cut her), then the A team the following year. I love that coach, even though he made the fair decision to cut my DD.

What club is this? Beautiful story which is rare in this area.

From a numbers perspective, kids are more likely to get cut or demoted at u10 & u11, but then move up at u13 and u14.

At u10 & u11 a lot kids are trying for top teams with small rosters (10-12 kids per team). But by u13 & u14, the rosters explode in size (16-22 kids per team) and a lot of kids quit soccer at those ages.

If your kid is cut/ demoted at u10.... keep playing & working hard and by u14 they should be moved back up.
