Currently DCPS closes on June 17th - does anyone know if there's a chance they will extend days that week? If so when should we know? |
Ugh if they do it would be so inconvenient. They have last day as 17th, 18th and professional holiday, and closed for Juneteenth. The proposed schedule has added days that Friday and the following Monday? No one will be there... |
There was a Post story yesterday that quoted DCPS officials saying the end of the school year will now move to June 20 and they'll communicate with parents about it soon. 🙄 |
Why would they not make the 18th the last day then and move the PD day!? |
I think they need to add 2 days - 18th and 20th. |
School ending on a Tuesday was bad enough - no learning is going to be happening. Hard pass |
Wait I’m sorry, a PD day and a holiday then ending on a Monday? |
Awkward, but Juneteenth is going to be a scheduling problem most years. It’s gotta go. |
School ends Friday, June 13. Your child need not go to school after that. Plan your summer beginning June 14 and don't worry about that absurd week after, whether it's 1 day or 3 days. |
That PD day will always be the day after the last day with students. It isn’t a PD day it is a day for teachers to finish packing up their classrooms for the summer and submitting final paperwork to admin. If students have school Friday the 20th then the 23rd will be the last day for teachers. |
It's a Texas thing, and it should have stayed a Texas thing. |
Or, and hear me out, we just end the year a few days earlier and keep the holiday. Which was the intention this year before the snow. |
Or not have the Wed before Thanksgiving - this is a newer thing for DCPS. Or instead of having "off" for election day, have that day as records day Or not sure why students are off March 14th |
From DCPS: “We heard the importance of providing students and staff a day off in March. This change is now reflected in the calendar. In order to make these changes, the upcoming school year calendars now include a long weekend in February and a long weekend in March, rather than a full week off in February.” https://dcps.dc.gov/page/dcps-calendars It would be nice if they could get the 2026-2027 calendar out. I’m planning travel for summer 2026 already and it’d be helpful to know when my kids will be in school. |
Ya’ll are wild. |
