president of the country is banning federal use of paper straws, saying they “don’t work” and don’t last very long. Instead he wants the government to exclusively move to plastic.

Are people needs to sip their mcdonald meal’s mountain dew for 7 decades to demand the straw has to be long lasting?

How is “I think we need more innovation in this area because it’s important” agreeing with “We should ban this.”?

We banned the straws to save the sea life. Now that we have started noticing microplastics, have there been studies showing how much microplastic you ingest from one drink with a straw?

Ftr, companies have been switching away from plastic straws voluntarily for years before some areas banned them . This won't "fix" that.

Where are there government straws? Hospitals?
Private business can do what it wants, which will be what the customer wants.

Good paper straws are awful

They don't work. Huge scam. Making proles sip from paper while elites travel the globe in private jets and mega yachts.

Just bring a reusable straw or your own water bottle? Who needs a straw above the age of 5 anyway.

I'm somewhere where they are banned, by the ocean, and it's not so hard to ban them. Businesses don't use paper straws for the most part. Many do no straws, some do plant fibers, agave straws and they work well.

Let me guess, everyone has plastic decking because it's so durable? Sand turns that decking into microplastics.

There's a restaurant near me that makes a great mojito, but they don't provide straws. I was there with a friend who carries stainless steel straws in her bag and decided that was the way to go.
