https://www.reuters.com/world/us/musk-speaks-...rce-says-2025-02-07/ Why is JP Morgan getting briefings from Musk about DOGE but Congress can't? Why is the White House and Musk lying to the American people about what he's doing at DOGE when banks are getting the truth? |
paywall. can you give us some more detail? |
The fact Musk is trying to keep DOGE and its activities secret demonstrates its malevolent intent. It IS an attack on our country and our government.
Keep fighting, don't give up because that makes their job easier. I found this discussion with Ezra Klein helpful - he points out that DOGE is losing all their court cases, people are starting to respond through protests and calling the Senate. We still have the power. https://www.thebulwark.com/p/ezra-klein-the-resistance-back-from |

He can say whatever he wants. Doesn’t mean it will happen. It’s not feasible. |
Why isn't JP Morgan speaking up and saying eliminating 75% of the federal workforce and numerous agencies is going to be very bad for business? |
This, too. |
In an earlier Ezra Klein clip, he had pointed out Steve Bannon's "muzzle velocity" and that if they were going to shock-and-awe the way through this "state capture," then they had to keep up the momemntum. They haven't. They got stalled by underestimating both how the federal workforce would react to a honey trap, and how complicated this system they are trying to rip down would be. The courts are catching up. Probably just as importantly, they were unable to capture the narrative about federal government across the country. They won't get it back. They might be able to ram more damage through, but it won't be in the way they expected, and with as little resistance they had anticipated. People aren't staying on the back foot. This is not good for them. |
It's not what the linked article says. |
It’s all unconstitutional, illegal in dozens of ways, and maximally unethical. Musk will be repudiated eventually but the courts and other adjudicators move slowly when wealthy individuals and institutions are on the wrong side of the law. Musk has to be imprisoned and barred from government contracting at the end of this so no future sociopath tries this again. |
Let us count the ways laying off 75% of the federal workforce and shuttering a bunch of businesses would be bad:
- big surge in unemployment - reduced federal spending, driving a decrease in GDP and cascading layoffs in non-governmental sector - service disruptions in myriad ways impacting daily life and business operations - economic uncertainty, loss of consumer and business confidence - adverse impacts to social security, medicare, medicaid, VA and other services - market downturn - supply chain disruptions - regulatory delays, inability to process permits, taxes, and other things slowing down business and causing a host of other issues - reduced revenue from taxes - increased fiscal liabilities - increased number of lawsuits impacting government - and on and on and on and on Why aren't there any grownups around Trump pointing any of this out to him? |
"DOGE has goals of eliminating entire federal agencies and cutting three quarters of federal government jobs." This is directly from the article. |
Where do you see 75%? |
Doesn't MAGA hate Rubenstein? Trump just kicked him off the KC board. |
Of course it’s not feasible. Elon has no idea what he’s doing. Trump doesn’t either. Vance doesn’t appear to be in the room although he missed so much senate work and was so inexperienced, he may not have any idea either. None of them seems to understand however that the reason government isn’t efficient is because that’s how Congress wants it. All that inefficiency is legislated by Congress and special interests. It’s just weird how maga and musk seem to think that Feds wake up in the morning and decide how federal dollars are spent. |
