Today I read that Starbucks ordered something like half a million sharpies and are going back to misspelling names and doodling on cups as part of their “go back to being a real coffeeshop” campaign.
Where I live, they spent the last 3 years gutting all the Starbucks to remove seating and make them nearly 100% drive thru so I’m like…why? Can we not pretend you’re the cute neighborhood coffeeshop I go to when I want to socialize? You’re where I go when I am desperate for caffeine and don’t want to wrestle my kids out of the car. Please don’t slow down because now baristas have to draw bees and hearts on the cups. |
| I bet they paid McKinsey a lot for this dumb idea |

I miss cozy relaxing Starbucks.
I can get an iced coffee at Mickey Ds drive thru for 99 cents. |
| Starbucks now is for order-ahead or the bathroom. They used to be nice and just became gross. I went to one in Korea and that one was still upscale and pleasant. |
| Starbucks didn't want people hanging around, and now many of us can't afford to buy coffee everyday.. |
| The homeless people and work all day at the coffee shop people ruined Starbucks so they got rid of the seating for those of us who stay 20-30 min enjoying coffee and the news before leaving. So…thanks for that. That said I realized I can buy infinitely better beans myself and make espresso at home for Pennie’s..so I guess also thanks. |
Same. I guess there is not the same demand for places like the old Starbucks but I really loved that vibe back in the day. Modern sbux has really leaned into a more fast food service experience and atmosphere. |
| They should fix their food offerings, which are mostly inedible. |
| I live in Western PA and we still have seating in our Starbucks. |
You could always, you know, go to a local coffee shop. |
They probably did! People seem to hate the new in store cups too. I have a new location nearby and they do have nice seating. |
| I don’t think I know a single Starbucks without seats, and I live in NoVA. |

I don’t really know how they are going to make this work. Our Starbucks have seats but not many and I would think they would need a lot more space if they are gojng to be storing and washing plates and cups daily. I’ve been off ordering for a while but the coffee in our office is so terrible tasting that I might go back to my online order for my in office days. I think that worked out to about $750/yr so I guess not the worst thing in my overall budget.
I would go to my local coffee shop but their coffee always tastes so oily and it’s hard to get sufficient milk in it (plus they often don’t do low fat milk at those places). I don’t know why the hipster coffee places all serve coffee that takes to me burnt and oily. I used to like Pret when they put the milk out for you to do yourself but since they put everything behind the counter I can no longer get it the way I like it. |
I'm cackling |
| Paying $7.50 for a Venti is way too much. I only do that twice a year. |
