Do you get nervous leading up to travel?

Anonymous
I do! I'm always able to relax and enjoy myself after a day or so, but leading up to it, I just worry about everything. Will we get sick, do I have everything set up at home, will weather affect our flights, did I do a good job with the trip planning details, etc. It's probably natural, but I wonder if others are able to take it more in stride than I do. Part of it is that travel has become so expensive that it feels high stakes!

I have travelled outside of US so often lately that I have become a pro. I do not worry.

And absolutely no worries if travelling inside US.

Not really. But I’m a last min packer and sometimes I wonder if I’ve packed everything lol. But I figure I can generally buy whatever I need at the destination so I try not to worry about it.

I have packing nightmares - things like my suitcase exploding open on the escalator on the London tube and me trying to stuff everything back in.

Yes. I have a twisted mind and figure if I think of everything that can go wrong, it will all be fine.

This. And time nightmares, where I dream about waking up too late and missing the flight!

None. I have none of these anxieties. Op, who do you travel with? Is there someone else who could handle, and would enjoy handling, the logistics? People who don't like or are anxious traveling should not have the burden of handling the details.

Not really. We travel a lot and I have packing down to a science. It takes me about 5 minutes to pack for a trip. The only thing that slightly stresses me out is worrying that our dog boarder will cancel last minute. We leave the house as is-nothing to set up. As long as the cleaner is not coming while we're away we leave the house as is. Make sure the doors are locked and the lights are turned off and we leave. I do check weather and flight status on the off chance we need to change flights but I don't obsess about it. We're pretty proactive with flights if we see things heading south. I don't wait for the airline to rebook me-I find my own alternatives.

I ran into problems traveling when I took a different purse, different than my usual. I didn't have what I needed. Now I make sure I've switched purses several days before the trip. And I put the former one away out of sight. I also hate to leave the house in the dark, so I hate early morning flights. I'm much more apt to forget something, either because it's dark or I'm sleepy.

No but I do get annoyed at everything. Because I hate traveling.

Yes, I think this is pretty normal.

Same. And like OP said it's high stakes these days. Every trip is expensive in terms of pure price, time and opportunity cost.

Sooo nervous because I've had things go wrong so many times! There are many airlines I won't fly anymore.

I have a generalized anxiety disorder, and I love to travel. This means I'm very excited and can't sleep right before traveling, can never sleep on planes, even long-haul ones, and don't sleep well anywhere that's not my own bed in my own house. But... I still love to minutely plan our trips, and love the actual travel experience. Go figure.

I have had packing nightmares since college. And catching plane ones.
I have packing phobia, forgetting medications, paperwork, losing stuff.
