Seriously?

Are people seriously planning to drop thousands of dollars on luxury travel with all the shit going on right now? Unbelievable.

How is emulating you (sitting at home on the internet clutching fake pearls) going to help? Getting away at least gives some respite.

I can see why a multi year round the world cruise would be nice! Big ship, motor sailer, or yacht

If I had the money, it's the only thing that would keep me sane.

This. I need the distraction. Planning vacations/trips and going on them is a good distraction.

Worst case scenario, Musk and company completely crash the economy, tank the dollar, and all the money you're hoarding becomes worthless. Might as well YOLO while money still means something.

Yes. I'm still in the process of planning our summer vacations. It's not "luxury" but when you have a family of 5 any trip is in the thousands.

Our financial and job situations have not changed at all.

+1. We live well below our means and have ample savings in “normal” times. If the $hit really hits the fan I don’t think we’ll regret that last vacation.

+1 covid and family health crises have really shaped my "take the vacation" perspective.

We just took a short but expensive vacation, we might not be able to for some time given that one or both of our jobs is currently at risk

Tourism is an industry. If people stop traveling those industries suffer.

Plus, I was on a business trip and was one day off of flying into DCA at night. A stark reminder of the fragility of life. I’m going to go to the places I want to see with my family because no one is promised tomorrow.

We are not feds so I don’t understand why we would pause travel?

Now more than ever. Time on vacation with the kids is very precious. I am not going to let that nazi piece of crap ruin it.

No reason not to travel. But if you go overseas, expect to be despised for being American by some.

I travelled when I was poor, I travel a lot now that I have a bit more cash, and if we lose most of our income, I'll travel then too. It can be done at a lot of different budget points.

Maybe worry less about what other people are doing and more about what you are doing.
