My DS told me some of the things his teacher has said to the class that is really appalling, like Covid was a hoax. I'm really considering talking to the prinicpal about this. Has anyone on this forum encountered anything like this and what did you do? |
I don't have experience but if your kids teacher is calling COVID a hoax you definitely should bring it up with the principal. |
I would teach my kid that all humans have opinions and that teachers are humans. |
An opinion is "I like orange more than yellow." facts are facts. |
That is good advice for a different situation where opinions are being shared. This is a teacher teaching a class of students misinformation. |
Almost as bad as sharing rumors anonymously on a site filled with of splenetic parents. |
I would speak with the teacher first, to confirm that they said what your child is reporting and register your concern. See what response you get. If not satisfactory, go to the principal. |
Your kid is a chatterbox. I wouldn't know what mine does at school unless they are in trouble.
Wouldn't bother me one bit as it is an opinion. |
Interesting, our school also had a (2nd grade) teacher who tells the kids a lot of questionable things (and they often just take it all in, because they are kids). She's young and I feel is someone who is mainlining social media apps. |
Yes, A PE teacher at our HS. |
Please do something besides post on a public forum - clarify with the teacher, maybe your kid heard wrong and if not please report to the principal. |
Agree, perhaps the teacher was referencing the headline from the other day that the virus likely originated from a Chinese lab. https://apnews.com/article/covid-cia-trump-china-pandemic-lab-leak-9ab7e84c626fed68ca13c8d2e453dde1 |
Just because you're a highly uninvolved parent doesn't mean it's good or that everyone is. My child trusts his teachers and I would have a problem with any teacher spreading this kind of nonsense. It goes beyond "an opinion." |
Do you extend this to teaching your kids that bigotry is ok because all people have opinions? |
Oh my. Definitely talk to the Principal. It's not appropriate for the teacher to talk about this in class. |
