No more interviews

Anyone hoping their kid does NOT get an admissions interview invite? DC has applied to T25 schools and has completed/received interview invitations for all but one or two? (so far) that offer them including all of HYPSM. I kind of wish for the schools that assign based on availability, there would be no availability for my DC. Submitted on the deadlines. In the DMV.

+1. And they don't count, even if Yale admissions pretends to on its website, so, OP, just ignore if anymore (but agree it's just HYP, etc. Those are the three my kid did. He also applied to Cornell but they didn't offer it)

I am confused. Why don’t you want your child to interview?

No, I think the interviews are good practice for the future so I’m glad they’re happening.

I don't love the idea of interviews. Seems like a risk, an opportunity to fall down.

Georgetown requires interviews, which may count a bit different than the HYPS ones, though it's hard to guess the impact, probably still only at the margins.

OP, now go see which of your kid's colleges offers an "optional" (*cough*) Glimpse video submission: Brown, Vandy, BU, etc. Fun times.

Wake also has a video component.

+1. Interviews rarely tip the scales to get a kid in. But can definitely knock them out of the running.

I have heard horror stories of alumni interviewers not following their schools’ best practices and asking questions that are out of line. The interviewers don’t receive training. Are not vetted. Very subjective. Your kid could click with the person out of luck that they have something in common or not. And it seems like a neutral or negative interview can be harmful in this ultra competitive environment of elite college admissions.

My kid had like 5 last year. I didn’t realize there would be so many. HPDP (ivies) and Georgetown. One was virtual. He generally enjoyed them.

This seems like a humblebrag. Oh woe is me, I have so much interest from T25 that my schedule can’t handle it all. Must be a bummer.

Umm I’m pretty sure interviews are random and offered based on availability. Has nothing to do with a school being interested in a student.
