| DS in MS said he knows kids in HS are in a ski club and they go skiing every week. Can anyone give me more details about this? Cost, which schools have this? We are in Bethesda. |
| Can't your son just ask his HS friends? |

My middle school kid participates along with many of his friends. |
| My middle school son participates and it has been the best experience. He loves to ski and he has met so many new friends. The long bus ride encourages actual talking and socializing. No video games. The kids have a lot of independence at the ski resort (the adult supervision is somewhat limited) but this is building his confidence and sense of responsibility. It’s open to public and private school kids in middle and high school. |
| Many schools have parent-run ski club, and the county has one too. Our middle school (NB) ski club costs $200 plus the lift ticket plus a voluntary contribution for chaperone end-of-year party and scholarship fund. 5 ski trips in Jan-Feb. Walter Johnson started ski club this year too, but I don’t know the cost or details. |
| North Bethesda has a massively popular ski club that filled 7 buses each Friday after school and WJ started a ski club this year. These are both parent run and a ton of work! |
| Kensington Youth Ski Club has been running bus trips for 9 years. It has both middle schoolers and high schoolers. Kensington skiclub.com. It is also volunteer parent led and nonprofit. |

Takoma Park MS used to have one run by one of the gym teachers.
Agree with others that it's a great idea for student socialization, but expensive and many parents can't afford it. |
| Our neighbor's high schooler went on a ski trip through Skitravel.com. I was curious and googled it. It's open to DMV public and private high schools. Her trip went to Quebec over a long weekend, I think MLK. BY BUS!!! My idea of hell. She doesn't ski, hahaha. But she went with a bunch of friends and had a great time. |
| OP, this is not organized by the school, or the school system. |
I organized on of these trips in hs from Massachusetts. It was debauchery. Our chaperones were 20. It was so fun and I would NEVER let my kid go. |
| Is there anything at Tilden? |
That sounds luxurious at a level that many families can't afford. Does the scholarship fund cover every kid on FARMS who's never been skiing? I kind of have a problem with something this expensive being directly connected _with school_, not keast of all because whose insurance liability is being invoked here if there's a problem? I can't think of too many activities that are higher-risk and higher cost out-of-pocket |
It is crazy luxurious if you think about all the costs associated with it - lift pass, ski equipment, ski clothing. The fact that the school can fill 7 buses of kids who can afford it should tell you something. |
| The memories of getting wasted club I mean ski club. |
