Why are so many of the HS graduations at UMBC now?

Not saying it’s a bad thing, but honestly curious. I remember when almost all schools graduated at DAR like 10 years ago and now my son is going to graduate from his HS at the UMBC arena.

Getting to DAR for a morning graduation or getting home from an afternoon ceremony is awful, and the number of tickets each student receive was very limited. We chose to take a bus that the PTA had organized when our kids graduated, rather than deal with the traffic and parking downtown. I'd have loved the option of going to UMBC.

Cheaper at UMBC.

And more seats available for guests, and more parking....

Enrollment is down. It is a deal to get students to go to UMBC.

Huh? Those graduating seniors have already made their college decisions by the time they get a peek at UMBC.

My kid is graduating from Wheaton and it's at UMBC. I'd rather it was on the school's football field.

Siblings and a very large percentage of MCPS grads do not last at their first choice.

This is incorrect. UMBC is 2x the cost of DAR.

Now a new question, will UMD takeover the graduations in the future?

Xfinity Center was deemed too expensive.

MCPS is now having UMD do graduations. Considering Wheaton’s enrollment size and distance, I thought Wheaton would graduate at the Xfinity Center too.

Why aren't they doing this for graduations?

Ceremony on field is apparently more expensive (field maintenance) and because it is held outside, in case of inclement weather, they need to make accomodations to be indoors or get LOTS of materials (e.g tarps) to continue holding it outside.

And limited seating. Grandma Larla couldn't attend in the heat.
