When are the results out? |
I heard this Friday from our school AART |
Helpful! Thank you.
If it usually the same across the county? |
Was posted in SIS today! |
DC got 139 on NNAT. I searched online it says 98%… I wonder if that considers in-pool |
It's a good score, but "in-pool" depends on which school DC attends and, ultimately, on the CogAT score from second grade. You can look at the "in pool" thread from December to get a feel for it based on the data points posted. |
In pool makes no difference. My child was in pool and didn’t get in until 4th grade. My younger one got her score back today and it’s a 130 or 97th percentile. I’m pretty happy with that… in pool or not! |
Should more than likely be in pool. 98% seems high though. DC had 149 and was 99%. |
There is minimal differentiation at the tail ends. Many numerical scores fall into the 99th percentile. |
FYI - got NNAT letter in the mail today. |
Got the letter too. The score is in the 99th percentile. Does any score guarantee kids placement in AAP or not? We are in a center school. |
No score guarantees placement, and NNAT is relatively unimportant. Some combo of NNAT and CoGat lead to automatic referral (being "in pool"), but being in pool does not guarantee AAP placement. |
Seems like importance of NNAT for AAP placement has decreased (based on what people say here) so no guarantees. DC was 99% with 142 so it seems like a wide range of scores can be in the 99th percentile. |
Older boy got NNAT 160, CoGat 144, and WISC 154, had to go through the appeal process two years ago. Younger one just got NNAT score back at 160. Hopefully don’t have to go through appeal next year. |
This place is so wild. We had very similar issue with VERY similar scores (moved here in his 6th grade) and chose not to appeal bc of child's anxiety. Ended up making him super anxious because the coursework was so unchallenging and now he's just accelerating math on his own and the science and history teachers give him the AAP work. We later discovered the issue was the teacher narrative - teacher just thought my kid wasn't smart because he didn't talk [the anxiety was SEVERE]. Looking forward to HS next year when we're done with FCPS' refusal to give appropriate work to the right kids. I know this is a digression but seriously - these outcomes shouldn't be happening. |
