One left-turn only lane, red arrow. Very backed up. 2 straight lanes, Green Light
Person in leftmost of straight lane won't go; instead has left blinker on. Why? Waiting for an entire change of lights (it goes turns straights then crossroads will go turns and straights and THEN she will have to wait until someone in the very backed up lane lets her in)? What is going through her head? Somebody please enlighten me. Also, the people behind her, once realizing what happened, starting quietly putting on their blinkers. I was about 5th and I LAID ON THE HORN. Why aren't we shaming drivers like this? People made some very unsafe cuts into the right straight lane to make the light. I just don't understand the entitlement, but also, the complacency. |
| Complain to the city that doesn’t have the traffic lights timed correctly. |
| She is not familiar with the area and did not realize she needed to get over in time. |
So, do a U-turn or go around the block. More to the point, this driver thinks they’re more important than everyone else. Which is quite common if you live in the DMV. |

Lots of people just don't know the ins and outs of particular intersections if it's not on their regular commute. Even people who have lived here for years. I give all grace to drivers who find themselves in this predicament.
Why are you so aggressive and angry all the time? I bet you posted on several school threads already about delays and closures. Same sort of aggressive vibe. Please get help. Your reactions are NOT healthy or normal. |
Yes, go straight at the light and don't block an entire lane of people? That would be my suggestion, but I'm not an asshat. |
Eh. It's fine. Live and let live. Certainly not a reason to disturb everyone by honking rudely. It's not going to solve the problem. |

When people come on here and explain that the reason they're mad at someone is because that someone must be entitled and feel more important than everyone else... I find it hilarious the poster doesn't realize they're mad for exactly the same reason.
You just hate that someone else doesn't think YOU're important. Because you think about yourself as more important than others. That's what's coming out of your post, OP! See, I don't think like that, so when someone cuts me off or holds up everyone at an intersection... I don't take it personally. I don't get mad. Life happens. It's not a big deal. |
| Maybe they are new to driving in a city, or new to U.S. driving. |
|
Most people would just groan in their car, and then forget about it.
But you retained the anger and hurt pride (that someone thought they could do this to you) and took the trouble of posting on DCUM. Between the driver who blocked the lane and you, OP, I think I prefer the lane-blocker. Not as rabid. |
Then they shouldn't be driving in a city. |
I can relate to this sentiment. It's very frustrating |

Absolutely infuriating. God, people are so stupid in America. Not only the driver you describe, but absolute imbeciles in this thread who defend this garbage. You think the crap out of them to shame. You do not hold up traffic for an entire cycle because you're trying to turn from a straight going lane.
The a hole is either trying to cut in front of the line because they don't want to wait at the end of the left turn lane. Or they're not familiar with the area (no excuse). If you aren't familiar with an area an miss a turn, it isn't that big of a deal. You keep driving and do a U turn or go around then block. Everyone has GPS these days, you'll get re-routed. You don't stop in the middle of the damn road. Morons in this thread. |
| I am 100% in the lay on the horn crowd for this. When I'm in an unfamiliar city and I miss the turn, I curse and then find a spot to U turn or follow the updated directions. |
