Most expensive fancy bakery cakes are over rated for the most part. I’ve had a few very good ones but i’ve more found random grocery stores with a random exceptional cake that is far more worth it-and for wegmans more than one. So now I totally have to try the red velvet!
add to it-fruit tart at giant (better than any bakery fruit tart i’ve ever had and it’s literally like $9 for a huge one) chantilly cake from whole foods. I think most of whole foods cakes are dry and tasteless but this one is a star. And so so much cheaper than fancy bakery cakes. |

I'm over red velvet. It was all a trend, only because the frosting is good. Adding a bunch of food dye (or beet juice in the old days) to keep a weak wartime chocolate cake from looking gray is not a cake for me. I add cream cheese frosting to deep devil's chocolate cake.
That said, I'm glad you found a good one and reported back OP. A good velvet is rare indeed. |

Agree. It's literally a poor person's cake. In Europe you'll never find anything like it, because we always believe that if you are going to enjoy a dessert, it needs to be a proper one or none at all. |
Giant Bakery is the last ditch resort when you have no other choice. Their baked goods are flavorless and dry. You are better off buying entemann’s. Wegmans Bakery is so much better as is the rest of the store. I avoid Giant for pretty much everthjng except paper goods and on sale orange juice. |

| Their chocolate raspberry cake is the bomb. Seriously try this cake. It is moist and the fresh raspberries make it killer. It also isn't overwhelmingly chocolate. Some cakes have so much heavy chocolate that they are too much. Not this. It is heaven. |
