When did you upgrade your child's bed from twin to queen?

I know a lot of people will say they are their children went all the way through high school and college in a twin. That's fine, I did too. I'm asking if you DID end up buying a larger bed for your child, when was that? And why?

Started off with a queen when they left their toddler crib

I switched my DD’s to a full when she was around 10. At 13 she insisted on switching back to a twin because she wanted more open space. [shrug]

My kids switched from twin to twin xl (extra long) when they hit puberty. Unless your kid is expected to share their bed with someone, a queen bed is excessive.

At about 3, when I realized it was going to be a while before kid went to sleep alone, and stopped needing me to lay down with him in the middle of the night. We all got a lot more sleep when I could sleep while helping him sleep.

Our crib transformed into a full sized bed where the crib rails are the head/foot board. So when he was 3 and got his first “real bed”.

Honestly it was most useful when he was little and needed one of us to fall asleep. Now that he’s older, a smaller bed would be better so his room had space for a desk.

My kid went straight from a crib to a full size bed (not a queen) because we already had the bed and it was already in her room. It was a guest bed that had been barely used and we put it in her room when she was born as a place to relax with her as a baby and where I could nurse while lying down, or where one of us could sleep if she wasn't feeling well and needed monitoring overnight. It was also where grandmas slept when they visited (by choice, they wanted to be near her -- they could have slept in the actual guest room which now has a queen).

We didn't want to get rid of the full just to put a twin in there when she graduated from the crib (which had been converted to a toddler bed). So we just put her in the full. It was great during the preschool and early elementary years because we could pile into the bed for reading at night or we could take naps with her in there or sometimes just hang out and read or draw. As she's gotten older, it's a place for her to chill with friends and she likes the extra space to spread out.

She's now 9 and we are looking to move in a couple years. I think when we do, we'll finally retire this bed and get her a queen.

I mean I slept in a twin until I got married. two of my teens are still in twin beds. One asked for a full bed that we were moving from our guest room, so she got it- then when we decided to upgrade our queen mattress she asked for our old one- so she got it. Now she is asking to revert back to a twin b/c she wants more space in her room.... If you are sleeping alone no one needs more than a twin...

For people that do this, how do your kids adjust at college where almost all of them end up in twin xl (which is just a long twin).
