Anyone know what’s going on? Why don’t the people complaining just start a new site? |
Is it because of people protesting meta apps? I couldn't figure out why they don't want others to admin. |
I think it's is weird that they don't want others to admin too. But i guess if they don't someone else will just create a new group and everyone will join that. Just seems like an annoying step when they can just add new admins. |
I wouldn't want something I created on FB that took on a life of its own, like AEM, that routinely has a position assigned to it far greater than what it actually is, handed off to a new moderator who could then reverse or change that position. People, rightly or wrongly, associate AEM with being the opposite of APE, for example. I wouldn't want to be Kelly, think I found a new moderator, and really what I found was someone who uses AEM to advance a new agenda, different from my own or in opposition to something I would advance. I wouldn't want to hand it off to someone who is going to use the membership list for their own purposes. And, if I really was taking a principled stance against META, I just wouldn't want to hand it over to anyone. I'd mothball it. I also wouldn't want to hand hold the new moderators. And no matter what people are posting on AEM today, it's a PITA to switch moderators in FB. But, also, the page is the moderator's baby, not anyone else's. Other people can create their own page, easy peasy. |
It has been declining in usefulness to me as a parent over the last few months, and the anonymous posting has been mostly unhelpful. Still I will be sad to see it go. |
I feel like it’s manufactured drama. The admin is lovely, but no need to vote. Just shut it down - or give the reins to someone else if you want to be less dramatic. |
There’s a lot of nonsense in the group but also a lot of helpful information. I don’t know why the mod is adamant about not transferring it. It’s just a Facebook group….its not a business she built. I hope someone else starts a similar group. |
I don’t think it’s weird at all. I don’t think anyone understands how much time (mentally and just literally) you put into admining a page like AEM. People are posting screenshots from it to ape, Arlington republicans, and the like then those people are online bullying other members of the community who are having different views on them. The moderator owes no explanation to anyone. Complainers just need to start a new site. I don’t blame her. I’d be done too. |
Totally agree! |
+1 Absolutely. It's anyone's perogative to start a new group. They have until Friday to announce it on AEM so anyone who wants to can join their new page. |
Its been a useful resource of school news and public discussion. I've liked seeing viewpoints that are different from my sometimes knee jerk reaction and the discussion that comes from those.
I also wish she would just hand over the reins with a big disclaimer and warning that the initial vision is over and now it's just a Facebook page of Arlington school parents. I do hope a few of the more active members will step up to create a new space. |

It's time. |
I also wish they'd hand over the reins to someone new. It's a shame to lose an information source with such a widespread following. They could even update the name of the group to be something like AEM v2.0 to make clear it has new leadership. |
I’m just a curious outsider, but why is it shutting down? Is it because of the FB moderation changes? |
