RMSC locations?

Which RMSC locations have the best coaching and groups for swimmers who are 11 and up? I had assume Rockville, but when looking at where the best swimmers are, it seems like ML and GISC lead the pack.

Not the Rays troll here, but I watch the times trying to get my DD ready for summer league. I noticed that the many of the RSFC swimmers that swim at and dominate in the Rays, aren't ranked very high in RMSC, and RMSC isn't even all that competitive in swim standards. I don't know how they get a gold club nomination, is just a big bigger biggest thing like MoCo high school rankings? Do they have better groups hidden somewhere?

No in depth survey, I just noticed in DD age group until recently there were only like one event where they made A times. A times are nothing to sneeze at, but there are other locations and other clubs...

That isn't even mentioning the large number of swimmers not making the cuts at all in RMSC.

Hard to answer this question since it shifts a lot. Ksac used to be the strongest, but with the renovations they’ve definitely taken a hit. Mlk site is usually underrated, they’ve developed some really fast swimmers. Anyway, currently I’d rank the sites:
1. Germantown
2. Ksac
3. Rays
4. Olney
5. Rockville
6. Mlk

FWIW our _experience_ at MLK has been very good. Our swimmer has improved a great deal and enjoys the coaching.

Parent of a graduated RMSC swimmer- my kid swims in college and most of their teammates were not part of such a high performing competitive club. We were at Olney and had a good experience, but we based our site on where we lived, we both work and couldn't drive all over the county 6, 7 or 8 times a week.

How is the silver spring site doing?

Pretty sure there is no team out of that site. KSAC is using as one of its alternate locations. Maybe once KSAC is renovated they will start a new team at Silver Spring.

None of them are "easy", to be honest. And you'll be coming in at an age that is arguably the hardest since ultimately it's a numbers game in that all of the sites will only have a few slots available since an existing kid moving up would have had to drop to make room. But, if your child is of the caliber that they actually truly belong, they will find a spot on any of them. However, the reality is, not all of them are going to work for you just based on where you live. You may be able to make 2 or maybe 3 of the locations work for you logistically based on where you live but not more than that. Just have them try out at the closest 2 to your house and let the chips fall where they may.

You need to apply for several and the one your child gets into is best. Its very hard to get in just because there are so many kids and so few slots.

For 11-12 its very hard as someone has to drop out and it depends on how many mini's move up.

It took us multiple tryouts to get a spot.

What kind of times would you need to get in at this level? Would a swimmer with lots of AA and a few AAA be in pretty easily?

PP was right in indicating that the issue may not be times, it may be spaces. At any given site, there may not be any vacancies _at all_ in your swimmer's age bracket (even though some of the practice groups overlap in age ranges). Even continuing swimmers who are overqualified for the next practice group up have to wait until slots are open.

That is why you definitely want to schedule two tryouts. There are usually two big tryout dates in July. Occasional other tryout opportunities sometimes are mentioned, but never at our site--we're not at Rockville, and I think sometimes they might have an off-cycle tryout. Others can correct me.

And also +1000 on as close to your house as possible. My 10yo has 5 practices a week now and the commute is a thing. Oh, and OP may want to know that most of RMSC's intrasquad meets are at Germantown.
