In their response to the OSA StudySync evaluation, MCPS said they were going to put out an RFP in fall 2024 for a new middle school ELA curriculum to start in the 2025-2026 school year... does anyone know if that's gone out yet? I haven't seen anything about it...

Oh my gosh that is the first positive thing I have heard about secondary English. I really hope they get something decent for middle school. The "advanced" English class all kids take is a joke. |
I'm really glad to hear this. Looking forward to more info. |
I don't see any signs of it on the MCPS website so I'm guessing it has not gone out yet.
Someone could email Superintendent Taylor to ask about it? He's pretty responsive. . |
Oh I hope there will be actual enrichment available! |
Really? He responds to parents? What is his email address? |
If not him, their lawyer. Or Communications dude Crum or someone. |
Is this actually going to get done to be ready for next school year? |
This is MCPS we are talking about. Central office to boot. No way are they that efficient. Maybe for the year after. Maybe. |
Has anyone heard any news on this? |
Study Synch is the worst - not challenging enough for advanced English students and hopelessly inappropriate for ELD (ESOL) students that we have been forced to use. |
Has anyone heard anything about this? |
They were supposed to present to the Board in April but it was pushed off to May. |
It's on the board's agenda for May 8th: Middle School English Language Arts Curriculum Approval |
Looks like the recommendation is to use CKLA (the free open source version, not the paid Amplify version like in elementary): https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/DGEJWQ4F32DF/$file/MS%20ELA%20Curric%20Approval%20250508%20PPT.pdf
Any thoughts? |
