Very cold January ahead; Warning from WSSC; Ice and freezing rain

Anonymous
The cold is not letting up, people. Expect very cold temps this week and next.

In MoCo and PG county, the water company WSSC has issued an essential water use alert because they're facing too many water main breaks and leaks, and if people use too much water, the company will have to issue a boil water advisory. Stay tuned for that:

Arctic blast: Wednesday, Jan 15, then Monday Jan 20 through Thursday Jan 23. Lows will be in the mid-teens, before factoring in windchill.

Freezing rain: Jan 19th, risk of freezing rain.

When will it warm up? After Jan 23? I can't take much more of this.

I thought we were supposed to have a mild winter this has been the coldest one I can remember. I never even usually have to run my heat.

They are saying this is the coldest Jan since 2011 and that temps are 25 degrees below average. You are not imagining it.

My son was telling me it's colder here than it is in Juneau. The weather patterns are all funky.

I'm part of the Inaugural events on the 20th - outside all day. It looks like it's going to be really uncomfortable!

Be especially vigilant about black ice and ice. Silk undershirt and cashmere sweater won't add bulk. There are thick 100% wool overcoats that look elegant but are warmer than the usual crap acrylic/wool blend. Fur or cashmere-lined leather gloves. Cashmere or fur hat. Fake fur, of course. The strands, if they frame your face, help break the wind. Wool socks and lined winter leather boots. Alternatively, there are battery-operated heated fleece vests you could perhaps slip under a coat - buy several batteries because one won't last the entire day and they take a long time to recharge. There are also electronic or charcoal-activated handwarmers you can put in your pockets. Maybe you can slip a charcoal one your gloves/mittens or boots, they're pliable.

Don't be a hero and get frostbite and pneumonia.

Stop logging onto DCUM during the school day.

Keep studying hard and maybe you will learn how to write an actual rebuttal argument instead of name calling.

You wrote an overly detailed paragraph about how to dress for cold. You're weird.

You do realize that this event is attended by people on both sides of the aisle who have to be there to symbolize the peaceful transfer of power, and that there are thousands of non-partisan government employees and law enforcement who need to be there as well?
