Her husband isn't even buried yet. She and her kids are in mourning. She has a farm/ranch to run. Her youngest child is 2 or 3 years old. She hasn't worked since 2010 because she's been a SAHM.

All of this is true, but most people don’t have this luxury when their spouse dies. But she’s already collected 522k in just a few hours so it’s good to be famous.

I personally know multiple folks diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in their 30s--all of them with no apparent risk factors. Chadwick Boseman was diagnosed with stage 3 at the age of 39. He died four years later at the age of 43. He never made the magic 45 for early diagnosis.

I had rectal bleeding that I was 99% sure was either a hemmorhoid or fissure and got a colonoscopy at 35 anyway. Good peace of mind. To hell with the insurance companies.

It’s not “sick.” It’s notable because when people die from cancer, people usually will bring a dinner to their home or send flowers. They won’t send donations amounting to $1mn within a few hours.

And it’s notable because most famous people don’t ask fans for money, but in this case with 6 kids, a SAH wife and big medical bills, sounds like James VanDerBeek ran through all money.

Lots of people do GFM. He just has a wider reach than you and your neighbors. But you can always make more money and he can’t.

I just saw an old interview with him that said he and the cast from Dawson's Creek receive no residuals for that show for syndication/streaming etc. He said he was 20 years old and had a terrible contract. I know he worked quite a bit after DC, but he definitely wasn't a "major player" in Hollywood. In fact, I think he was the least successful of the 4 leading DC actors. Hope his wife can put the money raised into a trust for the kids.

I don't know the full story of his cancer. But I have had cancer that is considered "curable". It has a 90% 5 year survival rate in fact, which is very high. That still means 10 out 100 people DIE FROM THE CANCER. So having a statistically beatable cancer does not save every single person who get the cancer. Statistics are not personal and *someone* is the 1% or 5%. Maybe he was reckless, maybe he didn't get screen at the exact right time, maybe he used juice instead of chemo. I don't know. But what I do know is that everyone is so hell bent on pretending that they are doing everything right, therefore they are safe. Cancer does not always work like that.
