We got a note that our 8th grader will be selecting classes for HS on 1/24. Does that mean that they will send out HS decision letters for special programs before that?
|
| I got a text that NEC assignment letters went out and we should receive them next week, so I’m assuming it’s the same for the other schools. |
Not necessarily. Your kid may go through registration for the home HS first. If they then end up in a special program at a different school, they will do registration for that later. |
| when my kid was accepted a few years ago had to register for classes at home HS first |

FAQ has this conflicting information:
Results will be communicated to parents/students during the beginning of February by email and through ParentVUE. If you have not received your results by January 24, 2025 in ParentVUE, send an email to DCCAPS@mcpsmd.org or contact a team member at 240-740-7800. If you need a ParentVUE account activated, contact your student’s school. |
| Last year was End of January. |
|
Submit hold school course sheet first.
Admissions decisions comes last week in Jan. Commitments due approx 2 weeks later, by some date before Feb 14. Ask around and check your mail carefully weekly. Don't forget to apply to home school academies in Jan, as backup. |
| 2 years ago it was Feb 1, and 8th graders had to pick classes before IB acceptances were sent out. They told kids to choose their classes normally and if accepted to IB then counselors would meet with them to revise their 9th grade course selections. |

Website says last week of Jan |
| In the past it’s been beginning of Feb. When my son got in two years ago it was Feb 2. |
| My Kid told me that there is widespread news (rumor ?) in school that High school magnet decisions are to come out not later than 24th January, which means it could come sometime this week or next week too. She tells me that this is all the kids talk about and many of them are very anxious and worried ! wonder if a 8th grade kid really need to go through this. |
I wish magnet decisions were made more quickly and were more transparent. That said, it is entirely normal for 13-14 yo to face important HS decisions. Many have already experienced rejections in sports, music and other competitions. |
Good prep for college decisions. That is 10x less timely and less transparent! |
| Are all the weather related school start delays going to delay publishing high school decisions? |
I would guess no. I would guess the school/program-level decisions are already made, and central office is probably working full days right? |
