Hi everyone,
My 9 DS and I are going to Birmingham over President's Day weekend. Does anyone have any hotel recommendations? We'd like to be at a hotel with tremendous walkability to restaurants and extractions. |
Extractions, haha
More extractions than attractions in Alabama, I’ll bet! |
Google

Was just there. You will need a car. Curious why you chose to visit there? I was down for work but took a couple of hours to see 16th street Baptist church and the jail. Pretty empty down town. |
OP here. We chose Birmingham for a new city for us both. We're planning on visiting the Civil Rights stuff, seeing a UAB bball game, have a tour to go caving 30 minutes outside of the city centre.
We're also going to visit the Science Center, Sloss Furnaces, the Motorsport Museum, and the planetarium to name a few. |
Be careful. According to the most recent FBI statistics, Birmingham,Alabama is #1 for murders and #2 for aggravated assault. |
The stats are for cities with 100,000 to 249,000 population. But, for every 1,000 residents, Birmingham is the murder capitol of the country even surpassing New Orleans, Memphis, and Detroit. |
Should read" per every 100,000 residents", not 1,000--even though that is also accurate but not how the FBI states this fact. |
Yuck |
Sheraton or Westin by the convention center |
We only stopped and saw Sloss Furnaces on a drive through, but that is well worth seeing, spectacular site.
Jack's is an AL fast food chain with great chicken strips, kids loved it. |
Thanks! |
I was just there and stayed at the Elyton Hotel, which was nice. It is about a 15-minute walk to the civil rights museum and close to several restaurants. Plenty to do there for a weekend. |
if you feel like driving, you could visit the legacy museum/sites in Montgomery 1.5 hrs away. |
OP here. Thank you! |
