Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
| I was wondering what people's predictions were about school tomorrow. |
|
Already a thread

| I believe schools will open on time, but I'd prefer that they stayed closed. My streets of still icy. MCPS needs to get it's act together. |
A lot of that thread is fighting. I'm interested in more predictions. |
| It's icy in many parts of county. It will not melt by tomorrow morning. It is cold and windy. Blowing snow. And as many have reported, their areas including schools have not been cleared. When they plow, they dump the snow on the corners where bus stops can be located. Not all sidewalks have been treated. |
| I hope MCPS sees that DCPS opened on time today and recognizes how ridiculous they look to everyone who is out and about today. |
As typical of most threads. People will complain. Welcome to this site! |
Does DCPS even have busses? |
| Hi, this is the OP here, please try and limit arguing. |
|
On time, or possibly a 2hr delay.
The psychology of schools districts is to err on the safe side and close for snow, and then, when sidewalk ice and snow persist and show no signs of abating, to accept the reality that instruction will need to continue regardless. Schools run out of snows days and families and school staff are notoriously unhappy if the school years needs extending. |
| I was in the definitely open on time tomorrow group but just walked my dog and now think a 2-hr delay. I was slipping and sliding in the daylight, and am thinking that those high schoolers going in the darkness will be dangerous. |
DCPS has some buses for certain kids. And many, many other kids take WMATA buses to school. |
| My roads are still icy and unsafe. My daughter's friend just fell and twisted her wrist. |
Dcps teacher here. Bowser shouldn’t have opened up. Our city busses take the kids to school and WMATA isn’t even operating at full capacity. Add to the fact that sidewalks and side streets and alleys are a nightmare. One high school reported 700 students absent. Some buildings don’t have heat. She just wanted to look good because everyone else around us closed. This also endangered a good portion of teachers who live in surrounding counties with no access to public transportation to get into the city other than drive. The schools they do have parking lots, weren’t shocked. People emails at like 8 am telling them they can’t park,so people were left circling buildings trying to find parking. It’s been a disaster. Parents weren’t happy either. |
Interesting, thank you for this information. |
