Curious if other daycares are closed today. Ours (Children in the Shoe Rockville) is closed. Others in the immediate area (KidsStop and Goddard Rockville) seem to be on a delay.
Signed, Parents who are burning through leave because it’s impossible to truly work from home w a 2 year-old at home |
So OPM says it's not safe to travel to work and closes the federal buildings... the public schools say the same thing for their staff but some how you think it's safe for daycare teachers to make it in? Many of your teachers are travelling in 45 - 60 minutes, use bus routes that have been adjusted and don't have the privilege of living 3 minutes from the daycare.
This is also only the second snow day of the year. Please make your plan now as we have a long winter ahead. |
Same old story.
Parents with young kids burn through leave be it sick days or snow days. Make a plan. |
OP are your jobs asking you to come in or telework?
Our jobs are asking us to telework and yes it’s hell with a 4 and 2 year old, but if our jobs are asking us to stay home I wouldn’t ask the daycare employees to come in. It’s not their fault they can’t telework. It’s a long ride for you if you think you’re going to conserve leave with a toddler |
When the pandemic hit our daycare was closed for 5 months. It was rough.
It's hard. Be grateful though that things will go back to normal in a few days. Screens help a bit though it's not ideal. |
Our preschool in Chevy Chase is closer Wednesday1/8 too. No idea why other than maybe they can’t afford to shovel out the parking lot for staff? Ridiculous. |
Our preschool in NW Dc is open, thank goodness. |
Many preschools and daycare close with the school district they are located in. They do this for two reasons. One is that they hire many teachers, and being able to stay home with your own kid when school is closed is a benefit they offer. As someone who has hired for these positions, snow days is something I got asked all the time in the time between the offer and the acceptance. The other is that liability wise, it's safer to be able to show that you didn't make an independent decision. |
Ours follows OPM, so open on Weds, but closed Mon and Tues. |
Well it seems Goddard Rockville and a few others were able to have their teachers show up and assist with daycare. You get what you pay for. |
That school in particular also operated at least two classroom out of ratio during their last inspection and that was with no snow. https://www.checkccmd.org/FacilityDetail.aspx?ft=&fn=goddard&sn=&z=&c=Rockville&co=&fi=2824 |
Wow you really can’t accept that your preschool is poorly run. Actually, Goddard Rockville got no Non Compliances for their 2024 inspection. Check for yourself. What is the name of your unsatisfactory school that manages tk take off a bunch of snow days for no reason even though we live in the NE? Let’s check their compliances! |
DP here. Wow. Who peed in your cereal today? |
You couldn’t pay me to take my child back to Goddard Rockville. Left there after 3 months in the infant room and couldn’t be happier. Infants never went outside. Only 1 full time teacher. Others were a rotating cast of aids. Lies from the administrators about classroom combining. Also told me my 6 month old didn’t nap because he wasn’t tired. Funny, never had a problem sleeping at his new center. |
