Not from TJ.

My oldest DD’s best friend is a current junior. She didn’t have any ECs or awards of note, just a very high GPA with a very advanced course-load in math and science and 1580 SAT.

My kid applied RD without national awards....perhaps we wasted our time and $.

Several kids from Baltimore privates have gotten in without national awards, a few were recruited but not all.

Only ones we know are sports recruits.

Every one of these threads should request posters to specify whether the applicant is an athlete or not. I feel very annoyed by recruited athletes getting a boost.

Read somewhere that the recent EA round yielded a higher acceptance rate, maybe more recruited athletes or national awardees this time

Gender is a huge hook at MIT.

Huge hooks are athletes and urm, gender not so much.

No it's not. Being an athlete isn't either. I know, I was an athlete at MIT in one of the Division I sports. My coach has been there for decades and laments all the time about good athletes not having the academic record to get in.

To clarify, two were sports recruits, three were not, none had national awards,

Any recruited athlete is a hook. They get into a smaller pool. They may still have to have 700+ math, but they are at a relative advantage to a non-recruit due to the smaller pool. May be a 40-50% acceptance rate, but that much better than 4%
